Owen’s not a happy man and is deep in debt due to customers who can’t, or refuse to pay their bills. One customer in particular is causing Owen some grief, a big fella by the name of Pat Phelan who’s built like a brick out house and looks like the sort who’s got dodgy mates, very dodgy mates. To get the money that he owes him, Owen pops round to Pat Phelan’s house and when he finds the door locked and Pat out, he and Gary-me-laddo break in. No alarms go off and Owen rides off on Pat’s motorbike just as Pat returns home and collars Gary who speeds off in the van. Anna’s not best pleased to find out that Owen’s nicked Pat’s bike and tells him she doesn’t want any bother brought to her door. Too late. Pat Phelan tracks Owen down and just when you think there’s going to be a gang of his dodgy mates, very dodgy mates, backing Pat up to help knock Owen down, Pat goes all soft and mushy and gives Owen an envelope with thousands of pounds of used notes inside to get the motorbike back, which belongs to his wife. I quite liked Pat, menacing on the outside and cuddly on the inside, I hope we’ll see more of him in a cuddle-menace sort of way.
Over at th’ospickle, Nick wakes up and remembers everything. Oh yes, everything. When Kylie and Leanne visit, Leanne urges an uncomfortable Kylie to show Nick pictures of baby Lily that she’s got on her phone. Leanne thinks she’s doing Nick a favour when she tells him, “Look, it’s Lily, it’s David’s baby” but Nick’s reply is a slow yet definite “Not….his. Mine”. Leanne hasn’t a clue what he’s on about it but Kylie knows that Nick knows and tells Gail who knows what Kylie knows and Nick knows but neither of them know that David knows although David knows that they both know.
Elsewhere this week, Daddy Connor arrives from Ireland to spend time with Michelle and grandson little Liam. He’s as surprised as we all are that Marcus and Maria are still together, but Michelle’s confused as to why her dad would turn up without her mum. Anyway, she rings Mammy Connor who tells her she’s chucked Daddy out, and so he’s turned up in Weatherfield now. If his roving eye lands on another lady, it could well be Liz McDonald who’s due to return very soon as Steve manoeuvres to buy the Rovers.
And finally this week, Julie and Brian are going through a tough patch as she wants to adopt and he doesn’t. Then she has a chat with Rita in the Rovers about the perils and pitfalls of fostering a child. It’s a lovely scene as Rita reminisces about Sharon and Jenny, but not without remembering that Sharon tried to kill herself and Jenny’s dad tried to kill Rita. They chat in the pub with Deirdre listening in, finding herself a bit rudderless without her Ken. Anyway, Julie mentions fostering to Brian as an alternative to adoption but he’s still not keen and I wonder if this signals the end for this wonderful couple before Brian bids bye-bye as we know he surely will.
And that’s about that for this week.
This week's writers were Peter Whalley and Jonathan Harvey. Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at http://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.com/2008/11/exclusive-all-current-corrie-writers.html

I thought Dierdre was ridiculous on Friday, what is it with Stuart Blackburn and middle aged women that he has to turn them into embarrasing fools?
Yes, Dreary was pretty moronic yapping on about the flavor of her crisps.
Do something with Brian and Julie. The street needs a pompous know-it-all what with Ken in "Canada" still looking after his son (yawn) and Brian would fit the bill. Maybe he and Julie can take in more than one foster kid...'little men' theme or some such. I really think he's good on Corrie, not just in the current persona, but they've decided he must go so that's it then I suppose.
Yes, just when it seemed Deirdre was coming into her own without Ken, it looks as though they are doing the same thing to her as they did to Gail - turn her into a clueless clown.
But it was funny how she reacted to Rita's history haha.
Deirdre was hilarious! Jonathan Harvey writes Deirdre, Mary and Julie so well.
I reckon that the money Phelan gave Owen is counterfeit or stolen.
Yes, just what we need more of on the Street; squalling brats to shut away in the cupboard between stories.
May I suggest to Mr. Blackburn and the writers that they come up with a better system for managing continuity of characters? Perhaps assign a particular group of writers to write for specific characters, rather than writers being assigned particular episodes. This would help eliminate the current problem of personality transplants, wherein a character is intelligent in one episode and a buffoon in another.
An alternative solution might be to have a position on the show of "character continuity", much like the current position, where continuity of things like hair length, or costume, or set decoration are managed. The "character continuity" person would be responsible for making sure that a character remains true to whatever the original description was, (i.e. witty, selfish, foolish, kind, interfering, etc.) and does not morph into someone unrecognizable overnight!!!
In Friday's epi, besides a few more brain cells, Diedre needs a better fitting bra!
Character continuity should also stretch to how the character looks. Katie is a separated mum, no two brass farthings to rub together so she begs her dad for a job. Yet she is so tanned she looks as though she's been in Barbados for a month. It's ridiculous! Don't even get me started on Tina. And even more laughable is that Weatherfield is in Manchester one of the rainiest cities.
