Is Tim Metcalfe really Faye's dad?

An anonymous comment on our blogger Tvor's post about Tim Metcalfe wonders if Tim is really Faye's dad.

Not only that, they suggest that the person posing as Tim Metcalfe, is in fact the man who shared a prison cell with Faye's real dad.

I have no inside information on this comment and I have seen no spoilers online or in the soap mags to support it. Rest assured, if I had done so, I would have blogged all about it.  However, it could be possible, couldn't it?, that this fella calling himself Tim Metcalfe who has turned up from nowhere claiming to be Faye's dad, isn't who he claims to be.

We know nothing about Tim Metcalfe - although presumably Social Services would have done, at the very minimum, a CRB check on him before they allowed him to have access to Faye through Anna.  Mind you, he did have a picture of Faye as a tot in his wallet, so it's possible he could have nicked the real Tim's identity while in prison. Who knows?

Do you think it's plausible that the real Tim could be languishing in prison for crimes unknown while the fella who says he's Faye's real dad Tim on Coronation Street is an imposter?  What do we think, Corrie fans?

When Tim first appeared, given Faye had contacted him on the Internet, I thought he might have been a paedophile - and was interested to see how Corrie dealt with this. When he claimed to be her dad, I then thought it was a standard story of a dad wanting to see his daughter. Now, Anna has agreed to Faye living with Tim, the story needs another leg-up, so predict something along the lines of him knowing her dad, but not BEING her dad seems plausible. Should be good.

ah but how do we know that baby picture is FAye? She wouldn't know. I don't see what it would gain Tim to be posing as her dad, though.

I agree with Tvor - there's no gain to be had in all this. I suspect we're being set up for an Anna/Tim affair and I'd be quite happy with that. The drama could come from Owen going postal about it all.

Or else it's the beginning of a child trafficking story. Would be edgy, but good.

I hope not. Time to have an ordinary character and some happiness instead of everyone having a dark past or being insane. Its so predictable everyone turning out bad just to make us cheer for the current established characters. Still a good theory, but I just hope it doesn't turn out to be true.

There was a scene with social services and Anna where social services said they had checked him out and that he was no threat to Faye.
But that doesn't necessarily prove that he is Faye's dad only that they believe him to be her dad and no threat to her, remains to be seen how this will develop.
I think an Anna/Tim affair wouldn't work but I would like Owen to be found out for his physical abuse of Faye and have her taken into foster care which would remove both Faye and Tim and with a little luck Owen as well.
Since they don't appear to want to recast Hayley that could leave Anna with Roy, not a plausible solution but when have the producers ever given us anything that was remotely plausible?endtgo

Rather than this hyper-drama of child trafficking, identity theft, pedophile, I would like the story focus on the issue of ownership. Are children the property of adults to be owned? Anna often refers to Faye as "my" little girl (because of the ink has just dried on the adoption papers). Tim reminds Anna, "She's me daughter," about every episode. To me we are guardians of our children, not their owners. They could open a dialogue with the nation about what this means.

He appears to be genuine. Just an average bloke trying to build a good relationship with his daughter who he left when he was in a bad place. He did snap at Chesney recently though and that's the first time I've really thought, 'maybe he's not all he seems'. Not sure where they are going with this!

I think it would be a good twist for Corrie to do that and I like that idea. Alot! Corrie needs some twists as I feel it has been a bit flat lately. More so since Blackburn took over, for me it somehow has lost its sparkle. Although, its only been 2 weeks since he appeared as the producer. But yes, I think it would be really good.
There was a little hint of his mean-streak when he called Chesney an idiot and then retorted 'nothing' when Chesney got angry. So maybe 'Tim'isn't all he's cut out to be. Hopefully...

IMHO there has been an improvement in the last few weeks. The scene with Anna and Faye, when Anna helped her pack her case and took her over to Tim's was really well done. I also like Sinead Tinker and the whole little scene with Beth and Kirk trying to set her up with Chesney. We have had to endure so much misery recently. Kirk could be a real comedian if just given the chance. And any scenes without you-know-who are a definite bonus.

Turns out he's probably gay and that's why his wife threw him out.

Well I have read a rumour (and I believe there was an article here about it) that Tim might be Sean's new love interest. Will have to wait and see.

Mad Hatter - that wasn't a rumour or an article, it was my mind working overtime :-) at http://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/could-fayes-dad-tim-be-seans-new-fella.html

Not possible as Social Services did do a background check when he first came on the scene; it was when the female social worker said they'd do it to make sure everything was ok. When she came back and said everything checked out, Anna was let down...I'll try to remember the episode date. If the writers decide to switch this at the last minute, then I wouldn't be surprised considering how sloppy some of the recent work has been--not logging in all of Sunita's items at the hospital?!

Whether he's the real dad (which I believe), or not, if he has a nefarious plan in mind, he could have accomplished it long before now. He's had Faye to himself quite a few times, and he could have taken her away easily, or hurt or molested her before now. Why wait and hang around? For what?

If he's involved in some child trafficking ring, they would be the most inefficient ones in the world at the rate he's going.

I think the real story will be in how his custody of Faye plays out, and what ultimately happens regarding her relationship with Tim and Anna. That should be drama enough without introducing a criminal element.

I'm starting to enjoy this story now, even though I didn't before, simply for the fact that Beige Lady and Boria haven't contaminated it with their presence. Yet.

However, as FJH said, the writing has become so sloppy that anything can happen. Logic has just flown out the window at the writers' office.

My only question would be "to what end"? What purpose would it serve and why go through all the aggro to pretend to be Faye's dad? It's not as though she's due for a significant sum of money or has found herself adopted into a family of wealth or fortune.

I agree with the comment above that Tim is actually gay, found himself trying to work through a straight relationship, happy to have produced a daughter but ultimately unable to maintain a heterosexual marriage and this led to Faye being put up for adoption. Who knows, she could actually be the product of a drunken fumble for all we know.

Why would he bother paying any attention to Faye if he didn't have to? If I wasn't actually related to the little troll I'd run a mile...

I've got no time for this saga. Assuming Tim is above board, it's quite believable that birth families try to make contact with each other. What's not believable is Anna's response to all this. Again, she's going to make it work perfectly without any help from social services or solicitors. If Tim were her ex, she'd be arranging visiting rights etc. Anna started off as a lovely caring mum but she's been turned into a dope.

I've got the feeling that he isn't on the level. He probably is Fayes dad but he has already started neglecting her. She is eating at Annas but covering up for her dad and when he showed up at Annas the other day she offered him tea or coffee and he asked whether she had a beer. I reckon he will end up being a violent drunk who abuses her badly while she ends up trying to hide the truth.

I am a bit concerned about the effect this has on fostered kids. It am concerned that some kids may now think they have a right to choose who they live with, even though there may be very good reasons why they are in foster care, due to court orders. Unfortunately this could potentially place really good foster carers , who are already under pressure. This in a climate where there are not enough enough foster careers! It has raised questions in our household.
