Where's Gary Windass gone?

There's a great deal of love out there online for Mikey North who plays Gary Windass on Coronation Street. And rightly so. Gary is one of the most complex characters we've had on Corrie for a very long time and Mikey North is a cracking actor too.  Corrie obviously think the same otherwise they'd never have given him his own online spin-off in Gary's Army Diaries.

So why's he not been on Corrie for ages? He popped up in the Terrible Terry storyline, shifting stuff at the lapdancing club and then he's gone again.

Over at the Mikey North online fans source, Mikey and Gary fan Tom Head has written in to us here at the Coronation Street Blog to say that his favourite character and actor have been missing from Corrie for far too long - and I can only agree.

Tom says back in March he wrote to Mikey North and a few weeks later he received a letter from ITV PLC in Manchester. Tom tells us: "I didn’t have a clue what it was and found out Mikey had personally written back thanking me for all I had done and he said, 'I hope to be back on your screens full time from June.'

Brilliant!

Can't say he's been missed that much to be honest. Unrealistic character and in an unrealistic relationship. The less seen the better.

Hmmm, I bet Gary would get along with Ryan and Rob

We do love Corrie but that gives us license to sound off about it. We were mostly on this blogsite pretty negative about Paul/Eileen, Karl/Sunita but we're still fans. Much like football supporters who lose heart with their team's performance. Anyway, isn't this what we tell our kids: 'It's only because I love you that I keep telling you off' ... What? Not in your house?

PLEASE let's have him back soon with a decent storyline. Easily the best young actor in the Street, he has shown what he is capable of in his post-traumatic stress storyline, so why has he all but disappeared? Time for a few other over-exposed characters to be put on the back-burner for a while!

I met Mikey North in person,in a restaurant/pub near the "Corie" set. He was very nice, welcoming, & offered to introduce me to other cast members & writers sitting at the table with him. I was star struck, but he was very sweet. He didn't know the show was so popular in Canada.
