New Jack Duckworth waxwork at Madame Tussauds Blackpool

Today is Jack Duckworth’s 40th anniversary since the day he first appeared on Coronation Street. He was one of Britain’s most-loved soap characters.

To celebrate, Madame Tussauds Blackpool has given the iconic Corrie character’s wax figure a unique ruby makeover – he looks very dapper with his ruby red bowtie and sparkling beer tankard, pictured in the Rovers Return.

Played by actor Bill Tarmey, Jack Duckworth first appeared on the show in 1971, making him one of the most loved and longest-serving characters to walk the Corrie cobbles.

Described as loveable rogue, Jack was renowned for his dry but witty humour, his love for pigeons and long-standing marriage to on-screen wife Vera Duckworth, played by Liz Dawn.

As a tribute Jack Duckworth’s TV anniversary, Madame Tussauds Blackpool is paying homage to the Corrie legend by jazzing up his attire with striking new ruby red pieces – to truly celebrate 40 years in style.

Jack’s trademark green rain jacket remains, but his wax figure has been kitted out with a new dapper red bowtie, his braces have been given an extra spruce with ruby red sequins, and his NHS specs have a sparkling new style too.

Perhaps the most striking item, is Jack’s new glittering red beer tankard, a first for Coronation Street, proudly placed on the bar top within the attraction’s fully licenced, replica Rover’s Return.

Matthew Titherington, General Manager at Madame Tussauds Blackpool, commented: “Jack Duckworth is a Coronation Street legend, so we wanted to do something to truly celebrate his character and the fantastic years spent on the cobbles.

“Jack’s loveable character pulled at the heart strings of households across Britain for 31 years, so we wanted to give his wax figure a ruby red makeover to truly celebrate his first appearance on the show and honour the TV legend’s 40th anniversary.

“Jack Duckworth was well-known for his love of beer, so we gifted his wax figure with a one-of-a-kind, glittering ruby red beer tankard, to celebrate the sparkle he brought to the show for over three decades.”

At Madame Tussauds Blackpool visitors can see Jack Duckworth’s dazzling wax figure outside recognisable, blue-bricked, number 9 Coronation Street, with his beloved wife Vera.
