Meet Roy Cropper's niece, Nina

It's time to say a proper hello to Mollie Gallagher, the actress who plays Roy Cropper's niece, Nina on Coronation Street.

The role of Nina is Mollie's first television role although she has done a huge amount of theatre work in the past.

Mollie tells us here at the Coronation Street Blog: "I am absolutely delighted to be in Coronation Street. I grew up watching the show and it is surreal to be on the set working alongside such incredible actors as David Neilson and Alison King.

"Nina is a really interesting character, she is a bit of an outsider and although she is reluctant to let Roy into her life she soon realises they have more in common than she first thought."

It's going to be interesting to see Roy take Nina under his wing (as I think he surely must, it seems to be the way the story is panning out). I'm also interested in the relationship that Nina and Carla might have, too.

I am watching in Canada and so far I am not impressed with her whatsoever. She is very rude and I absolutely hate the Goth look. She looks like she is dressed for Halloween.

We don’t need yet another character. Some of the ones we have barely do anything as it is.

She speaks highly of you too. Give the girl a chance

Jeanie: I like her! Seems like a good actress and a semi-interesting character. The dynamic with Roy and Carla seems to be clicking as well. And I can see a potential pairing with Craig...In some ways she's similar to his first girlfriend who was a much more suitable match for him than Bethany. Given that four female characters approximately her age have left--Bethany, Sinead, Kate, and Rana--it makes sense to bring in a new young thing to fill that gap. And she's looking more interesting than Sinead or Kate! Added bonus--maybe we'll have a bit less of Gemma.

Well said Jeanie. I agree. She has potential. So many characters on here are greeted with I hate them, get rid, without been given the chance to shine. I remember one comment on here from someone about Aiden Connor. He'd been on the show for less than a week and someone called for Aiden to leave. Aiden ended up being one of the shows favourite characters.

She's obviously been brought in to replace the younger characters who have left or are about to leave, as Anon above says. I also read that Helen Flanagan (Rosie) has no immediate plans to return though that was much heralded recently. Roy's niece is 17 so could make friends with Faye, who hasn't been seen for ages. It depends what the writers do with her. She could be a damp squib or a brilliant addition. Roy is good as a father/grandfather figure and he might find they share a nerdy interest.

I am really looking forward to this character developing, and hopefully mixing with others her own age. Roys will be a good grounding experience but there will be too many adults around her. Yes she would be more at Faye's level and just a bit older then Amy. Better suited for Tyler age wise if he is still on the show, but as a friend. It's going to be lovely to see her shed the Goth and it may be a meaningful moment.

Nina seems promising, the way she is so protective of her father, but it will be crowded at Roy's if Carla doesn't move out. I just think it's a shame Richard is being killed off so soon, as he and Roy already have a good relationship.

Lol, when did Aiden become a favorite character? It's only the circumstances surrounding his death that had people regretting him but for as long as he was on, he never got popular and if he'd left in a cab like most characters do, most viewers would have said the show was well rid of him. The writers simply don't know how to write compelling characters without using some sort of gimmick as a crutch. With Gemma, it's coarseness played for laughs, Sinead was a quirky dope and now Nina will be the surly Goth. Considering that the height of Goth popularity is long past, this actress would have to be the next Helen Mirren to make that role interesting.

Lol, well he was a favourite of mine!

I like the idea of the character Nina, especially as it means we might get to see more of the wonderful Roy. I also like the idea of Carla having a little mentor/sister...I thought it was great when Carla told Roy to watch what he says.. like a daughter (which is how Carla thinks of herself pertaining to their relationship)....I can see that she could be an interesting addition and not the first Goth we've seen on the street before. Remember Rosie and Craig? As for much of the younger cast disappearing, we are left with the very young crowd...and Faye who fits nowhere. We'll see
