Henry Newton leaves this week, bundled into the back of a car by the two posh gangsters who’ve been after him for a while. And Gemma’s not even too sad to see him go, not after he wanted to claim against the Rovers on their insurance after pretending he fell down the cellar steps. Gemma knows he’s faking it and when Henry leaves the Street, she and Chesney share a moment and a cuppa. Will these two ever get together?

Leanne starts work at the solicitors’ office as their new PA in place of Rosie Webster. She and Imran enjoy the intimacy of working together and she tells Angie they’re ‘having a thing’.

But Angie’s got more on her mind that Leanne’s thing, when Jude tries to make up to her with a date night, spag bol and some jazz.  She reckons their marriage is over but Mary plots to bring them back together and organises a vow renewal ceremony, without telling either Jude or Ange. It’s got disaster written all over it but that doesn’t stop Mary arranging flowers and sending out invites. There’s a nice scene in the new garden on Victoria Street when Tyrone and Jude chat. Tyrone mentions Jack and Vera. “Who?” asks Jude. “They were like mam and dad to me,” replies Tyrone.

In the Rovers this week there was a wonderful scene when Audrey finds out that Rita’s invested in Maria’s salon franchise business with Claudia. Audrey should know better than to think that friendship comes before business with Rita. Remember when Rita refused Bet the money to invest in the Rovers?  Anyway, it was a lovely scene, packed full of old-fashioned Corrie, with the two matriachs going head to head in the pub.

Simon and Ken return from Cornwall this week but as soon as Simon returns, he’s got nasty Tyler on his case, stalking him on the Street. When Simon and Leanne enjoy a curry at Speed Daal, Simon finds glass shards in his food, which Tyler has put there. After a few menacing texts from Tyler, Simon’s really scared, more so when Tyler ad his gang try (but fail) to kidnap Simon from the street. Peter takes it upon himself to make sure Simon comes to no harm. But as it’s Peter we’re talking about, he then leaves him with Carla in the factory who promises to look after him. But Sinead takes ill and Carla has to rush her across the street to the Bistro into Daniel’s care and while Carla’s out of the factory, Tyler and his gang threaten Simon, they know he’s alone. Simon rings Carla who rushes back to the factory just as Peter returns. They try to get into the factory as Tyler rolls by in a car. A gun points out of the window, a shot is fired and Peter falls to the floor.  Fortunately, he’s not hurt as it was just a paintball that was fired. However, it forces Carla to tell Michelle that she does indeed have feelings for Peter after all. Ken, the only one with the sense to think straight, rings the cops.

Elsewhere this week, Tyrone and Chesney wonder how Brian manages to keep their kids under control. What they don’t realise is the Ruby, Hope and Joseph think that Brian is Santa Claus and are terrified to misbehave incase they don’t get any Christmas gifts.

Gail discovers Audrey’s seeing Lewis again. Lewis asks Audrey to choose – will it be her fella or her family? Audrey chooses Lewis yet again. Gail is beside herself with anger at her mam and calls Lewis “a cut price Milk Tray man”, in a wonderful line from writer Simon Crowther.

Over at Underworld, they’re interviewing for a new machinist and Carla is astounded to see that one of the applicants (she thinks) is the double of Tina McIntyre. You’ll remember Tina, she was the woman Peter snogged on his wedding day to Carla. Anyway, Carla makes Peter interview this woman, who’s called Carina. Peter spots the resemblance to Tina and comes clean to Carla that he knew she was testing him by making him interview Carina. Carina doesn’t get the job, but that’s because they reckon another girl Ellie is better qualified. Well, that’s Peter and Carla’s story and they’re sticking to it. They almost shared a kiss this week too. In the factory after the interviews are done, Carla and Peter almost lock lips but Roy comes in at the wrong (right?) moment and they jump apart before their whole god-damn-hot-fandango starts all over again.

With Jack due back from Liverpool any day now, Fiz and Tyrone help Kev get the house ready for Jack’s return. And when Kirk dons his Buzzer the Bee outfit to take up his role as mascot for Weatherfield County footy club, an idea forms in Tim’s mind. Why not ask Tommy Orpington to come and do a celebrity charity thing for Jack? Kirk’s straight on the phone to Tommy O! Tommy O! who agrees to Kirk’s request.

And finally this week, as well as new girl Ellie in the factory (who we haven’t yet seen, by the way, could she be the new Fat Brenda?) there’s another new character who turned up to work in the kebab shop. His name is Matt and he’s a tall lad, it’s fair to say.
