Mikey North: Phelan storyline will run few more months
Mikey North, who plays Gary Windass in Coronation Street, was interviewed live on ITV's This Morning, er, this morning.
He talked about Gary and Nicola's plan to bring down Phelan and said: "Gary and Nicola have concocted a plan to infiltrate Phelan's life, so Gary's got a job working on the mill with Phelan, because he thinks that he's hiding something. So now I'm going to try and find out what he is hiding down there – and that's going to run for the next couple of months."
Asked about the criticism that the Phelan storyline has attracted from fans (via Twitter, scraping of tweets as clickbait is where the newspapers increasingly are getting their stories from, groan... ) Mikey replied: "All I can say on the matter is that the viewing figures are up higher than they've been for a lot of years. So I think if people are switching off, then people are switching on as well for this. It's got people talking about it, hasn't it? People are talking about it and that's what Coronation Street want, isn't it?"
And asked about how long it will take for Phelan to get his comeuppance, Mikey said: "I'm not sure it's set in stone yet how Phelan's demise is going to happen. I know that this is the beginning of the end, shall we say. But I think we've got a few more months to run on it yet."

They wouldn't keep going on about Phelan getting his comeuppance if they didn't realise they'd pushed it too far. Viewing figures are presented in such a weird way that you could probably interpret them whichever way you like. It's true that Corrie is being talked but it's mainly people saying what a great actor Connor McIntyre is. Corrie will have a hard time sustaining interest after the actor goes so maybe Phelan's exit will be Christmas, after all!
Months? *GROAN*
This is getting as bad as the Callum/Kylie/David storyline that went on for over a year!
Yep months. I've previously said in the past that a lot of stories conclude in Corrie's "big week" at the end of May. I really hoped I'd be wrong, but unfortunately it's looking like I may be right.
C In Canada, at lease in the Callum/Kylie/David storyline we had the wonderful Paula Lane and Jack P Shephard! As soon as Paula returned from her maternity leave it really enhanced the story and when the panto Callum was killed off in September 2015, the scenes between Kylie & David were electric right upto until her death in July 2016. I'm hoping that now we have Nicola Thorp intergrated in the comeupance of Pat Phelan then it should finally start to pick up some pace. Also with Steph back too. I've hated the Phelan storyline mainly because I hate him so much and hated seeing him get away with everything. Now his daughter hates him and is plotting his downfall it's becoming enjoyable to watch.
They're right! As much as we hate Phelan, we still watch to see what is going to happen. It's like the more you complain, the longer he stays? Smart play on their part.
