Corrie Producer Kate Oates confirms Phelan's demise
There's a good bit of juicy information in The Radio Times online which says that Weatherfield villain Pat Phelan will "meet his maker" later in 2018.
So, it does indeed sound as if he's being killed off!
We asked that very question just this morning.
Speaking to Radio Times at this year’s Covers Party, Corrie producer Kate Oates also hinted at who will be instrumental in Phelan's death.
She said: “2018 is going to see the demise of Phelan. Connor is so up for this challenge. He’s so excited about it and he’s playing it brilliantly. What I like about Phelan’s downfall is that it’s very much to do with Eileen. It’s to do with her realising who she’s married. It’s to do with Nicola and that child. You’ve got the high drama balanced out with the emotional family domestic drama, which is when I think Corrie is at its best.
“There’ll be a few twists and turns – we have some stunts coming up, which will be exciting,” she added.

'twists and turns' has become Corrie-speak for 'haven't a clue as yet'. And 'later in 2018' could mean the Christmas special. Yes, the actor is brilliant but his skill is masking the plot holes in this storyline: why didn't Andy call up to Eileen to save himself (Stockholm syndrome was dreamt up in the canteen) and Rosie is yet (might still happen) to remember Phelan's visit to the office. But some people will say if both those things had happened, the one-man show of Connor McIntyre would not have filled the screen so effectively. I rather think the writers cruised on plot development when they realised Connor could hold it together without much help from them.
At first we thought it would be Anna, then Gary, then Daniel, then Seb, who would bring Phelan down, but now we know that's not going to be the case.
My money's on Nicola. She's the one person who Phelan will NOT kill, being his daughter, and pregnant daughter at that.
"Meet his maker" could mean Phelan we shake hands with Kate Oates in the Rovers where she is passing extra.
Silly
Everyone is with the praises that Conner is a "brilliant actor". The man acts well, but he definitely "over acts' to the point of taking the drama, and making it a little too dramatic. Overly done facial expressions to everything.
