With Christmas fast approaching, it also brings with it a very special Coronation Street anniversary, which is that it's one year since the return of Toyah Laverne Battersby.
Christmas Day 2016 was the episode which saw Toyah return to the street after leaving her husband, Toby. Since then she’s gone on to have numerous big storylines throughout the year, including her relationship with Peter Barlow, becoming the new landlady of the Rovers Return, and of course not forgetting the heartbreaking moment she was told she wouldn’t be able to have a baby after going through IVF treatment.
Georgia Taylor is an incredible actress and has so far been totally outstanding in playing Toyah, and will continue to be for as long as she is on the show.
When I’ve seen the question online asking ‘Who is the best Coronation Street character of all time?’, my answer has always been Toyah Battersby because for as long as I can remember, I’ve always automatically associated the words ‘Coronation Street’ with Toyah, she is what the show is all about.
Toyah has her serious moments, her funny moments and definitely her caring moments as well. Caring being a word I would use to describe Georgia as a person too.
Earlier this year, in February, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Georgia at the Coronation Street gates and she honestly made my year in that moment, such a down to earth, lovely lady and she has helped me so much because that’s just the amazing person she is.
I would like to give all my thanks and praise to Georgia, to say what a fantastic job she is doing on Coronation Street and also I look forward to seeing what 2018 holds for Toyah.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I've always really liked Toyah too, and Georgia is a fantastic actor. I'm really pleased she's back on Corrie, but I don't think the writers have managed to recreate the spark which made her character so special first time around. She works really well with Leanne and Eva, but her relationship with Peter doesn't feel believable or interesting. And the scenes when Liz was highlighting Toyah's shortcomings as landlady made me cringe. I hope to see a lot of improvement in the writing for her character in 2018, but the way Corrie is heading these days, I'm not counting on it:(
Think the actress is good but don't think Toyah works in the pub - she's just not strong enough.
Toyah's line about "chloroform" was good and I like her as one of the weird sister coven with Leanne and Eva. Her friendship with Angie is vaguely promising, as is the new connection to Chris (?) the new Rover's boarder. However, now that Carla is back, the focus is bound to shift to Toyah's rivalry with Peter's ex:/
Although I do like Toyah as a character,I've been very disappointed since her return.
Aside from her sisters and Peter, there's been little interaction between Toyah and some of the other characters namely Roy even though she worked in the café years ago and was close to the Croppers but still hasn't offered her condolences for Hayley's death.
I also thought it was hyporcritical for Toyah to help Eva in her fraud revenge against Aidan simply because Maria betrayed her years ago by sleeping with her lecturer boyfriend even though Toyah herself cheated on her husband with Peter.
Tpyah didn't even seem concerned that the factory lost their jobs because of Eva's revenge and she customers.
I still don't buy Peter as the love of Toyah's life,to me that will always be Spider.
