Bev Callard to star in new Jim Cartwright play

Jim Cartwright, writer of such plays as The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and Road - and who appeared in Coronation Street as Cathy's brother, is forming his own theatre company, to be based at Salford University's new £55m arts centre.

The Jim Cartwright Theatre Company has pledged to showcase "the very best of current northern talent".

The company will launch with Burning Bright, a performance of Cartwright's monologues read by Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley Cropper) Sue Johnston (Gloria Price) and Beverley Callard (Liz McDonald).

It won't be the first time that Bev Callard has worked with Jim Cartwright on one of his plays. She played the wonderful Mari Hoff in Little Voice when it toured a few years ago. We went to see her in the play at the Futurist Theatre in Scarborough and you can read the review here.
