Top 60 Corrie Characters - No. 18

18. Norris Cole 1994-1997, 1999- (94 votes)

Following the footsteps of bumbling businessmen Swindley and Reg Holdsworth, nosy Norris first appeared as a work colleague of Derek Wilton’s and annoyed both Derek and wife Mavis when he stole Arthur the gnome! Don’t ask! It was when he became a street resident in 1999 that he became a firm favourite with the viewers as he became Emily’s latest lodger and Rita’s assistant in the Kabin. His partnership with Rita became a classic and they star in humorous storylines that run concurrently with the dramatic ones. Storylines that Norris has starred in including a séance in the Kabin backroom, winning a contest in the Rovers dressed up as Eartha Kitt, representing Manchester in the Commonwealth Games, coming face to face with his half-brother Ramsay again after 50 years and being kidnapped by his admirer Mary Taylor. Known for being rude, Norris is the street gossip and is as dangerous as any serial killer! If he’s not behind the Kabin counter, he’s usually seen sweeping the pavement outside the shop, on the lookout for some fresh gossip. Although now proprietor of the Kabin, Norris still gets undermined and mocked by Rita but deep down they care for each other.  Norris, like many men of the years, holds a torch for Rita and did propose to her 2007 but she gently declined. Norris is wary of street newcomers and was proved right about Richard Hillman being a crook, con man and killer. Shame he didn’t see through con artist Lionel Hipkiss aka Mel Hutchwright!

Should the Kabin’s Keyhole Kate be at 18? Should he be higher? Are you a fan of his nosiness? Leave a comment!

Check out who's at 19.

ooh, I love Norris! He is a proper Corrie icon and whilst some of the positions in this poll are a bit suspect I'm glad Norris made the top 20.
