Watch her very first appearance on the Street on May 3 2000, via the wonders of Youtube, below:
Mind you, 2000 wasn't the first time actress Sue Cleaver appeared on Corrie. Here she is in 1994 playing the role of a nurse on Corrie.

Fortunately her heavy smoking habit was quickly discontinued...
And quite rightly so Mr Sainsbury, one of the worst characters ever.
I've always liked Eileen. She always made me smile. She's had a hard life with a lot of disappointments so yes, she's often bitter and glum but she's got a cracking sense of humour and a big heart.
Currently, the best bit of Eileen's character is her relationship with Jason. Shame we don't see more of that.
I second Tvor. Eileen is one of my favourite characters. She's a good mother and a good friend to all. As far as favourite scenes, I loved the one where Eileen and Deirdre shared a bottle of red and talked belts.
I also like Eileen. Yes, she does have the occasional moan, and the Paul the Fireman story was dire, but she does have a great sense of humour.
I guess I'm the odd man out..I cannot stand this character. All gobby mouth and constant pity party. Sorry..just IMO.
I don't see how she is a good friend to all, she is the first person to turn on a friend when they desperately need them. She instantly assumed Tyrone was beating Kirsty and also was the first to mock Steve about his depression.
Not a fan of Eileen- I liked her at first as she had a quick wit but now she's a real misery. I wouldn't miss any of her household if they left.
Agree that she used to be witty whereas now she's sour. Yet another 40+ female character who doesn't have any female friends. Can't the writers come up with ordinary dialogue for mature women?
Love Eileen..one of the street's best!
I've always liked Eileen. The writing for her recently has been pretty weak, but that's been a problem for all of Corrie lately. Hopefully she'll be back to her wisecracking self soon.
I have always loved Eileen. There was always such chemistry between her and Steve that made the taxi office scenes a joy to watch. I don't blame the characters, I blame the writers, r the producers who allow it!
