Reasons to be cheerful on Coronation Street

Well here we all are, a few days into 2011. The remainder of the turkey has hopefully been consigned to the dustbin and the Christmas decorations have once again taken up residence in the attic. For Corrie fans, a few stories have emerged which probably made our collective hearts sink. An impending wedding for the seemingly one dimensional Kylie Turner will hardly be a red letter day. Also the thought of Tracy pulling pints at the Rovers does not bode well.

However, we do have things to look forward to.

The arrival of Stephanie Cole as Sylvie Cropper should be joyous. Hopefully she will be a cantankerous old harridan, running rings around Roy.

We should also cheer at the possibility of Claudia Colby running the Rovers! This has the makings of a high camp appointment and no doubt the scriptwriters will feed her some juicy lines.

Add to all this the return of Charlie Condou, a good actor who often seemed under used during his last stint on the cobbles. Maybe through the character of Marcus, we can learn to appreciate the often annoying Sean once again.

Let's be of good cheer then, fellow fans! Which of the possible storylines are you most looking forward to?

I think you said it all with 'high camp'. It's nothing else at the moment. It always had its camp elements but it's all too much. The bad is outweighing any positivity I have about the coming year on the street.

Why the hate for Kylie. She hasn't been in it long, so the character does need fleshing out, but Paula Lane is a good actress and the character has possibilities... As for Tracy, please tell me she is leaving as some reports suggest. Oh, and well done ITV for announcing she will be a barmaid, I guess this means we know she doesnt die tonight!!

I'm not actually that keen on Claudia being a Rover's landlady. I think (and this is rich coming from me) she's too old-fashioned. It also feels like she's being parachuted in.

Feels a bit more palatable with the renewed and new characters, rather than the New Year Horribilis that was inflicted on us in a shouty voice. I've not warmed to Claudia yet, mostly cause it was never explained why she was so stuck up and teased "Aud" so much. I could see her dressed to the hilt and dripping some good lines as the Rovers' Queen for a little while. Need more back-story though.

And I'm willing to give Kylie a chance, IF they flesh out the character more, AND don't keep here a one-note wonder like that other one (I won't even say her name.)

I still don't feel convinced they'll make Roy's Mum completely naggy and a replacement for Blanche. I'd like to see some of that, but also a bit of the DNA that makes Roy so annoyingly cerebral.

I agree it would be good to find out more on Claudia's background, if she is going to become a more permanent character.

Love Claudia, looking forward to the voice of reason Marcus returning but not looking forward to seeing poor Roy's mother coming to make his life a misery. Havent we got enough harridans without another one. She looks a right old bag as well.

I'm actually enjoying the Street at the moment. Okay, the stuff with Tracy is a bit of melodrama but that's nothing new to the programme and the way she's carring on is nothing different to the first time on the show in her Kate Ford incarnation.
