WEDNESDAY 3RD JULY
CARLA RETURNS WITH A PLAN TO SHARE Peter and Carla return from Carlisle and move back into Roy’s flat. Carla’s dosed up and frail but lucid. Following a visit from her key worker Carla packs Peter off to an AA meeting and wastes no time going to see her staff at the community centre. She gets a mixed welcome but tells the staff she has something she wants to tell them.
DAVID PLAYS NICK AT HIS OWN GAME David is angry to hear about Nick’s latest attempt to stay out of prison and decides to play dirty himself.
GEOFF MAKES A GRAND GESTURE Geoff spoils Yasmeen with a champagne breakfast whilst offering to speak to the insurance company with a view to helping look after her finances. When Yasmeen gets upset about the loss of a framed photo of Kal, Geoff replaces it with a huge picture on the wall.
ELSEWHERE Maria’s astonished by the raunchy nature of the responses to her dating ad. Checking her profile, Bethany sees Maria has put “Netflix and chill” among her interests. Maria’s horrified to realise what it means and orders her to delete the app. Sean tells Paul and Billy that by the time he arrived, his date was snogging someone else. Making it clear he blames Paul’s text for scaring him off, Sean flounces out.
WEDNESDAY 3RD JULY
PETER FEARS CARLA ISN’T THINKING STRAIGHT Peter is worried that Carla’s psychosis is making her do rash things. Carla is furious when she hears Peter talking to Roy about trying to get power of attorney to protect her assets. She explains that her illness has made her realise what is important and she wants his support.
SHONA TRIES TO MAKE DAVID SEE SENSE Shona is unimpressed with David’s behaviour and Toyah tells Imran not to believe everything David says. David tells Shona that if Nick can lie to the court so can he.
GEOFF HAS YASMEEN RIGHT WHERE HE WANTS HER Geoff proudly tells Yasmeen that he’s shopped around and managed to save her over £200 on her house insurance, it even covers his DJ gear. Yasmeen’s impressed. When Geoff makes out he accidentally gave his own bank details to the old insurer for her jewellery payout, Yameen assures him it’s fine. Geoff’s pleased to have taken control.
MARIA IS SLOW ON THE UPTAKE In the Rovers, Maria moans to Ali about her none existent love life. Ali suggests there’s probably someone right under her nose, but Maria fails to take the hint.
ELSEWHERE When Summer suggests they should all go to the Weatherfield Light Festival, Billy
and Sean are up for it whilst Paul’s fed up to find himself playing happy families with Sean.

Seems a bit quick for Carla to go back to work. Sarah told the workers that Carla was coming back 'tomorrow' so why is Carla sneaking in behind Peter's back?
Really hate the ungrateful factory lot. Get jobs outside the street!!
It really annoys me that the factory workers have not received even a tiny bit of grief-fuelled anger and hostility from anyone else on the street - particularly Imran and Kate - for their role in Rana’s death.
1) They were illegally trespassing. The factory was announced by Carla, the day prior to it collapsing, that it would be closed. The only person granted access by the employer was Beth. Anyone else entering that building, whether the door was open or not, was trespassing.
For a group of people who constantly down tools and strike every time something doesn’t go their way going all the way back to the Baldwin era, they sure have not yet learned how a strike actually works. Striking employees are not allowed to be on the property of the employer - period! Picketing must be done on public property. They have two lawyers on the street that any of them could have consulted as well as a former city councillor and mayor. (I mean, the writers really portray the workers as incredibly dense, yet also somehow untouchable) They barged into the factory, (trespassing), decided to remain there (illegally) and lock themselves in with two people who were not even employees (Emma and Gemma), in order to put pressure on the employers. They were warned by Craig about this, and they chose to ignore him.
Which leads to...
2) Holding an innocent woman’s dress for ransom. Beth was about to leave with Rana’s dress, and the workers took the dress and held it as part of their ‘ransom’ as Rana was marrying Carla’s sister and it would be their trump card, as it were. Had they not done that, Rana would not have been in the factory to beg for her dress back; she would have never have left her purse in the office and had to go back in to get it when the roof caved.
The fact that the factory workers, and Gemma and Emma, are all aware of the real reason why Rana was in the factory when the roof came down, with the exception of Sally, none of them have shown any remorse or guilt for their roles in her untimely death. They all, once again, join in on the “court of Coronation street” where everyone is judge, jury and executioner before any investigation is complete.
While Kate and Imran were busy trying to nail Carla to the wall for her negligence, the factory workers were more than happy to join in on the vitriol and finger blaming. The high court of Coronation Street all acted as though Carla dragged Rana into the factory kicking and screaming on her wedding day, tied her to a chair, then dropped the roof on her head, with Kate and Imran leading the charge. And the factory workers were all more than eager to join in on this, while all the while keeping quiet and not showing an ounce of guilt for the fact that they were the actual culprits who had essentially lured in an innocent woman into the factory, leading to her untimely death.
Even now, knowing the roof was sabotaged, and shifting the blame to Nick, the factory lot are still unrepentant and on their insufferable high ground.
For once, just once, I’d like to see the factory workers knocked off their high horses.
Very, Very good points! Anon @12.42! I agree with you 100%. I have always thought the factory lot were extremely unprofessional and self-absorbed. If I ran the factory I would have fired the lot of them. Good luck to any of them getting a decent job.
Very well put, Anon. The factory workers behave like spoilt children most of the time, throwing a sickie if they fancy a day off, or sloping off early to get ready for a date (Sean), not to mention personal phone calls and visits from friends and family. Rana's tragic death was an extreme example of the consequences of such behaviour.
Although I have considered the factory workers self absorbed, judgemental and lacking in compassion, some of the points you have made Anon 12.42 are impressive and 100% the case.
Also, I totally agree with Anon 14.02 and Coconno196. They are all unbearably selfish. Awful. They don't give any slack at all no matter what the circumstances.

It’s been irritating me for a while now. I wanted to write a guest blog post about it, but I didn’t think anyone would really want to read it.

Wow!!!! I would love to see a full blog covering that topic anonymous. Very good points there. The workers were to blame for her being there.....omg. I wonder if the writers even realise what a gem they had with that. Can you imagine the conversations on the street that could have happened! Well done.
It really bothered me when Carla was talking about her anti-psychotic medication with her care worker and the only side-effect mentioned was
'drowsiness'. I have a relative who has to take this medication and the side effects are horrendous, including significant weight gain. I'm surprised if Carla would have even started to feel the full effects of the drug. It can take months for the drug to start really doing its job and can cause severe long-term health effects. No wonder there are still those people in the world who think once you start taking a medication for a psychiatric illness you should be 'cured' right away (like Michelle had assumed).
