Kana - Yay or Nay?

We've had Tilly - a ship of Todd and Billy, but what about the latest ship of Kana - Kate and Rana?

What's a ship, you say?  It's one of these, surely?

Well, yes, but these days it's also one of these:

ship

N: Short for romantic relationship, popularised in fan fiction circles.
V: To endorse a romantic relationship.

And so there you have it. I'm old and I don't say ship other than, you know, as in the phrase "I see no..."  but younger, more trendy Corrie fans than I are shipping all over the internet these days, putting characters together and chopping up their names. I'm showing my age, I know, and I can only apologise.

But what about Kate and Rana - Yay or Nay? I say Nay.

The only thing I like about these two together is that we're seeing a side to Rana that makes her slightly interesting. She's never been one of my favourite characters but even a hardened old cynic like me felt my heart melt a little the other night when  Bhavna Limbachia played a blinder, laying Rana's heart on the line to Kate about how she felt for her, confused as she was.

But still I say Nay to these two together. What say you, Corrie fans?

No accounting for taste! Kate is not that pleasant. So Nay from me. Rana could just let it all pass as to leave Zeedan and the complications of it really might not be worth it.

Yay, I think? I don't much like either actress but since they're not going anywhere they might as well have an interesting storyline.
Zeedan's perma-scowl is going to be something to behold for the foreseeable future though.

From tart to Muslim wife to lesbian. People do evolve in real life but this smacks of personality disorder.

This storyline has me interested, i think that it could be really good. Not only with the fact that Rana is married and the fact that they are part of the same friend group so it is going to get really messy really quick but also the religious aspects of her being an lgbt muslim. I really felt her confusion last week when she was trying to explain herself to Kate and i am looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

Jeanie (anon):

The storyline seems implausible and cliched but it seems to be working pretty well...the actress playing Rana was actually having the chance to do some acting (as opposed to standing around looking glamorous) and she was surprisingly good! I'm afraid I always thought the actress was just a pretty face, but this really shows how important a story line is. It was bringing out an interesting side in Kate too--as a character she has always seemed very principled (unlike her brother!), so her conflict and desire to do the right thing seems genuine and promises some interesting moments. So yay from me--a good story is being developed and it is working well with the actresses who have some good chemistry together--much better than Kate with Caz, Sophie or Imogen, or Rana with Zeedan, for that matter.

I hate this storyline. If it was a guy hitting on a woman while cheating on his wife, people would call him a dog. But since it's lesbian action on screen, it's OK and cute names are contrived? It's just not cool no matter what.

I cannot believe I stopped watching Corrie over a month ago after watching since the first episode, it just got too ridiculous, it's a shame, as you said yourself in your blog think its just for teenagers now,I still read your blogs and stuff about Corrie for now, but can't see me going back to watching it again

Someone has already called Rana a tart on this post,

Zagg makes a good point. Rana is cheating on Zeedan and I don't think confusion over her sexuality (or his perma-scowl!) excuses it.

I am glad to she is finally getting a storyline though. Something needs to happen to shake up the Nazir household. Sharif's departure helped but it's not enough. I was hoping Zeedan would evolve into an interesting character but he's either not being given the right storylines or the character just isn't working. I still think Rana can be saved, especially as they've shown her developing a friendship with Liz and helping other residents on the street.

I also say nay,
I agree with Zagg's comments and would like to add that it makes Kate hyporcritical having an affair with a married woman after going after Steve who 'cheated' on Michelle conviently forgetting her fling with Will and upset with Eva for pretending to be pregnant due to her brother's Aidan affair with Maria!
I think the Connors should be renamed the 'Cheating Connors' as every one of their storylines involves betrayal!
I bet the next Connor storyline will be Johnny cheating on Jenny with Liz or Jenny with Steve?!

Yay from me.

I see others points regarding the cheating, but I think that is what makes it interesting. To see Kate's principles be tested, and maybe finally slip up.

It's all well and good to say "why is it than when the cheating is two women it is okay", however I am sure that many other couples on Corrie have had cheating story lines/started out in a similar way, and there were fans of those couples. I never seem to see these kind of things said then... Besides which, it's a soap.

Loving seeing them both get an interesting story line with room for more acting ability involved. They certainly have a lot more chemistry than Kate had with Sophie, and would be much better together than her and Caz. And I hate to say it but Zeedan is though sweet also incredibly boring to watch.

I think this has a lot of potential, and can't wait to see what Corrie does with it.
