ITV has confirmed that Ryan Thomas is to leave Coronation Street next year. Having been on the soap for 15 years, playing builder Jason Grimshaw, Ryan has decided to pursue new challenges.
Ryan says: "It has been a great privilege to be in Coronation Street for the past 15 years. The cast and crew are amongst the best in the business and to have had the chance to be a part of it for so long has been an amazing experience.
"The decision to leave was an extremely difficult one but I felt that now was the right time to spread my wings and try other roles.
"I'm just excited now to see what exit storyline the writers give Jason."

In that case I just hope they get Jason and Eva together again soon - if ever a couple were meant to be together it's them, and it'd be nice to see them happy for a while before Jason departs.
Awww Jason was always one of the good guys. I hope the personality transplant demons don't change him before he goes.
It's a shame but they've rarely used him as well as they might and he always delivers when he's asked to. I wonder if some of the younger actors know they mightn't have a job for life now that all soap ratings are falling so fast? He's probably wise to get out while he's still young.
It's been the Platt show for so long now I've forgotten about the other characters. I don't like his character anyway but it really is time for him to move on. IMO he'll be gone for a few months, see that there's nothing out there and come back to Corrie.
What a shame. His character has never really been allowed to develop as it could've - he should by now have his own young family to provide the next generation and counterbalance the Platt dominance.
I have come to enjoy Jason and how Ryan Thomas has matured with the character. But I can see how moving on can appeal after being on the same gig for 15 years. And now with your ex on the set, who knows, could have been the last thing to push him over. Hopefully it will be a smooth exit story and not too That London.
Awww, not Mr. Gay Weatherfield! Jason was one of my 'good guy' favorites.
I also hope he gets his happy ending, since he was always getting kicked in the teeth by Cupid.
Hmm. We don't know for sure if Tony's sticking around and if Jason leaves, I guess we'll get new builders. Gary can't afford to buy it on his own.
Well that's a bummer! I like having a good guy on the street. I guess there's still Luke to fill that role, but I would have liked to see Jason and Eva build a business and raise a family together. Hope he comes back soon!
AT least there will be more room at Eileen's for waifs and strays.
I also liked Jason and I'm disappointed that he's leaving while the Platts who have taken over the Street will remain.I hope he isn't killed off though.
All the good people are leaving. Steve. Lloyd. Carla, now Jason.
Yet people like Todd and Tracy stay.
Oh, nooooo. One of my favorite characters!
Really sorry to see Ryan leave....have very much enjoyed his character over the past 15 yrs...but....he hears Hollywood calling....so all the luck in the world to him.....I wish him much success!! Fifteen years is a considerable time span to play one character...why not see what else life offers somewhere else??
So, maybe Leanne and Nick could get back together and Jason and Carla can head off to sunny California together, since Jason is not averse to being with an older woman (Stella) and Carla likes younger men (Liam and the trash collector - can't remember his name...
Sadly, unlike the many female Corrie actors who have gone on to become huge dramatic successes, I fear Ryan may find ex-cobbles life hard going.....so yes, I think he'll be back in a year or two to pick up the pieces
