The televised version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical will be shown on Christmas Day and will last two and a half hours. Katherine will play the part of Baroness Elsa Schraeder.
The role of Maria will be played by ex-EastEnders actress Kara Tointon. Pointless host Alexander Armstrong will play the music promoter Max Detweiler and Captain von Trapp will be played by Julian Ovenden who has starred in Downton Abbey.
Katherine Kelly is no stranger to live singing. She appeared on the Coronation Street 50th anniversary album, Coronation Street: Rogues, Angels, Heroes And Fools in 2010.
The Sound Of Music Live will be filmed at London’s Three Mills Studios.
