Corrie's Jason Grimshaw goes into Celebrity Big Brother House

When Ryan Thomas left Coronation Street behind he said in his exit interview:  "The decision to leave was an extremely difficult one but I felt that now was the right time to spread my wings and try other roles."

Well, he has done some acting since he left Corrie.

He joined the cast of Neighbours for a short while.

At Christmas 2016 and 2017 he was in panto. and he's going to be in panto again this year.

He's done meet and greets in clubs and pubs.

And now he's gone into the Celebrity Big Brother House.

Can't say I blame him for doing these things, they're obviously lucrative. Good luck to him!

Ryan Thomas from Coronation Street to Ramsey Street

Ryan Thomas who played Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street, has joined the cast of Neighbours.

Ryan will play Rafael Humphreys, a mysterious loner with dark secrets who arrives in Erinsborough looking to escape a particularly difficult chapter from his past.

“I grew up watching the show so to get the chance to join the cast is amazing. I was on holiday with my daughter when I got a call from my agent about the part. I spoke to the producer and found out more – it was very different to anything I’d played before and I can’t wait to start filming!”

Greg Barnett, commissioning editor at Channel 5, said: “With his good looks and Corrie years under his belt, Ryan is the perfect handsome devil. His arrival in Erinsborough marks the start of darker times for a particular Ramsay Street favourite – prepare to be gripped!”

Ryan will appear on screen in early 2018.

This Christmas, he'll be appearing in pantomime. Check out our list of all the ex-Corrie cast members in pantomime this year.

Ryan Thomas joins the cast of Neighbours

Since leaving Coronation Street as Jason Grimshaw has appeared in pantomime (Oh yes he has! etc) and he's going to be starring in pantomime again this Christmas too. You can read more on that here.

And today it's been revealed that he's returning to the world of soap - down under. Yes, Ryan is joining the cast of Aussie soap Neighbours.

Ryan will play a character called Raphael and a source tells the Mirror today: “Ryan’s news may come as a bit of a surprise but people are confident he’ll make a big splash on Neighbours. He’ll bring his Corrie fans with him and earn a new legion of fans along the away. He is just waiting on his visa. Then he’ll be moving to Australia to film the show.”

This week's Corrie - The good, the not-too-bad and the ugly

Overall this was a good week on Coronation Street. The main focus was Sarah's breakdown with some really powerful performances from Tina O'Brien and Daniel Brocklebank, with Paula Lane, Jack P. Shepherd and even Lucy Fallon as Bethany who has really come into her own, I feel.

The slide into paranoia and mania for poor Sarah felt very real and was heartbreaking to watch, especially when Lee had her by the waist in a replay of Callum's attack. Her worst nightmare come true. Even a stable person would have flipped a bit with that sort of thing happening.

The Not-too-bad included Beth and Kirk's storyline and some of the Roy and Cathy conflict, which, frankly, slid into the ugly pool in part. The McDonald marriage woes wallowed in the deep end of that pool.  I'm sorry to say I really don't care about this couple. Add to that, the creepy inspector who looks like he should be piloting Thunderbird One instead of a panda car and you've got this week on Coronation Street.

I've written more about it in detail on State of the Street

Pics: Jason Grimshaw's best bits on Coronation Street

So, farewell then, Jason Grimshaw.  You're off next week to pastures new and good luck to you wherever you may go.

Time then, to take a look back at Jason's 16 years on Coronation Street.  He was involved in some really great storylines such as the...

Wedding to Sarah - eventually. He escaped out of the loo window in the church the first time they tried to get married.
 He won Mr Gay Weatherfield.

Attended the Joey Tribbiani School of Acting.

 Had no problem with elf-esteem.

Was never very far from his mum.

 Was handy with the plumbing.

Reunited with his dad.

And he liked to take his top off. A lot.

Will anyone actually miss Jason?

I'm not sure I will but I am looking forward to the changing dynamics chez Grimshaw once he's gone.

Ryan Thomas: 'Leaving Corrie was the toughest decision ever'

Ryan Thomas, who plays Jason Grimshaw, has now left Coronation Street. He's filmed his final scenes and by the look of these pictures, he's been spending his days in the gym.

His leaving interviews are dotted around the tabloids and the magazines today and we're choosing to link to the rather wonderful Inside Soap magazine to bring you some highlights of their interview with Ryan.

Ryan says that leaving the show has been the toughest decision he's had to make because it's been his life since he was 16 years old. It's all he knows, he says, and he wants to experience more.

"Bruno and Tina have previously left the show to do other things, and it's as though I was left behind and I missed out on all of that" Ryan says, referring to his cast-mates, who play Todd and Sarah in Corrie.

He says that actor Terence Maynard, who played Tony Stewart, was a big influence on him while he was in the show as Jason's dad. Ryan was so impressed wih the actor's work that it inspired him to leave the security of a long-term soap role and find out what the rest of the acting world has to offer.

Ryan Thomas with his top off - gratuitous pics alert

Pictures of Ryan Thomas are all over th'interweb at the minute as he "sculpts his six pack in an attempt to wow Strictly Come Dancing judges".   Or, at least, that's what the tabloids are saying.  I hope he goes on to do some serious acting, rather than dancing but I don't suppose I get a say in the future of Coronation Street's Jason Grimshaw.

Anyway, the tabloids have these before and after pictures of Ryan Thomas saying they're the most amazing transformation pictures we've ever seen of the actor's body.

I beg to differ and offer for your delectation, the real transformation pictures of Ryan Thomas' chest. Hairy and smooth.

I thank you. Have a nice Friday.

Ryan Thomas on Jason's downfall in Coronation Street

There's an interview with Ryan Thomas, who plays Jason Grimshaw, on the official Coronation Street ITV website.  Ryan talks about the upcoming storyline for Jason which will throw him into turmoil when he finds out that his dad Tony has died.

Ryan says that Phelan find ways to manipulate the situation and really winds up Jason. He says that viewers will see a totally different side to Jason and that he'll become aggressive and confrontational.  We've already seen the preview pictures of Jason's fight with Aidan Connor in the Rovers.

Ryan says: "This is going to be really horrible as a viewer to watch, as you'll see the downfall of Jason. You'll see the upset of how he loses his father. Just as you feel sorry for him, you'll feel more sorry because you've got Phelan trying to take everything from him It's really sad, actually."

Actor Ryan Thomas is leaving the show later this year.  Read more on that here.
