Yay or Nay: Should Gail accept Michael's wedding proposal?

In next week's Coronation Street, Michael Rodwell gets down on one knee and begs Gail for her chips. Or her hand in marriage. I'm guessing it's the latter.

Previews suggest that Gail doesn't give Michael an answer straight away, which is unlike her. She's normally the first to zip herself up in something unsuitably frilly and frothy to drag a bloke up the aisle and say "I do, yet again"

But never mind Gail's answer, what do we think she should do? Should she accept Michael's proposal - Yay or Nay?

Here's a reminder of Gail's previous mistakes marriages:

Wedding number 1. From Gail Potter to Gail Tilsley. Gail married Brian Tilsley for the first time on 28 November 1979. Brian divorced Gail after her affair with Ian Latimer as he wasn't sure whether he was really Sarah-Lou's real dad.
Wedding number 2: Gail Tilsley to Gail Tilsley. She married Brian for the second time on 24 February 1988 for the sake of the kids. Brian died after being stabbed in an alley after a night out in a club.
Wedding number 3. From Gail Tilsley to Gail Platt when she married toy-boy Martin much to her mother-in-law Ivy's chagrin. Gail and Martin's wedding took place on 27 September 1991.
Wedding number 4: From Gail Platt to Gail Hillman. Richard drove Gail round the bend and her family into the canal. It was probably never a good choice to marry the man they called 'Norman Bates with a briefcase'.
Wedding number 5 From Gail Platt to Gail McIntyre. Another watery end to Gail's marriage when Joe died in a lake after trying to do an insurance scam.

Nay. It's getting very tedious seeing Gail marry another wrong 'un every few years. Give her something else to do!

Considering most of her husbands have ended up dead and this one has a dicky ticker, I'll say nay! She probably has stock in the widows' weeds dress shop but even so...

If I was Michael, I'd run fast (or as fast as my heart would allow) and I'd run far, very far.

Absolutely NAY, why would Gail want to wed again anyway, she is hardly going to have any more kids. She hardly knows Michael, who has only been around for a matter of months and is a bit of a drip and constantly negative. Is she really that desperate for a bloke?

Gail will take the plunge (ha) and marry Michael, her father will resurface to walk her down the aisle...then Michael will expire at the altar just before saying 'I do'.

Just a bit O/T, I've met Chris Quinten (Brian) and he's always happy to meet corrie fans and discuss it at length. He's a very nice chap.

I don't see why characters always want to get remarried again and again. Just makes a complete mockery out of it. Just remain together with marriage, far better. And I guess if they do get wed the new happy couple will live inside the box room still.

Nay.....then Gavin and the real Gavin would in all probability move into the ever-expanding Platt house along with Sara L and Bethany ....I'm counting 9 people. Surely a bottleneck at the bend in the stairs and a long queue for breakfast.

This what I predict will happen Gail will accept and they get swiftly married then the real Gavin turns up and 'Gavin' turns out to be a wroung un causing Michael to have a fatal heart attack then Sarah turns up to comfort her mom and decides to stay for good.

only if it takes her off the street! she is such an annoying character. maybe they could elope to Italy & send SaraLou2 & Bethany back in their places?

To be fair, Gail was not enthusiastic about remarrying Brian. She also resisted the idea of marrying Martin for a long time. Pregnant with David, she chose a termination, until Martin persuaded her otherwise. In the late 80s, the writers sought to make Gail a strong, independent woman, co-owner of the cafe business with Alma, and at the centre of feminist storylines that explored her ambivalence toward a conventional female role, much to mother-in-law Ivy's distress. Now the writers choose to portray her as a gullible and child-like embarrassment, as if they can only imagine how she looks through David's eyes - and what normal 20 something wouldn't be embarrassed by his live-in mother's love life?

I say bring on some new feminist storylines suitable to Gail in 2015.

The sight of Gail with her baps out while marrying Richard Hillman is enough to put me off crumpets for life!
