Dean Fagan, who plays Luke Britton, has been given a 12 month contract to stay on Coronation Street.
Digital Spy have an exclusive interview with Dean who says: "I signed for another year a couple of months ago, so I'll be around until at least this December and hopefully people will like what I'm doing!
"I'm a lot more settled in now than when I first started. Everyone is still lovely and I'm getting more serious storylines. It's nice and comfortable now.
"I think we're going to go deeper into the Luke and Maria relationship, although it never quite works out on the day! Every time they go out, something drastic happens!"

Really glad to hear that. He's really fitting in well as a new character, he's a normal likeable guy, which makes a welcome change. Both he and Steph could become long term characters as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah I like Luke, he is not a bad actor either. But he needs to get away from the lacklustre Maria whose sole purpose on the Street just seems to have a relationship with the latest bloke or moan in the hairdressers - she is dragging him down in Frosty's opinion.
I have to agree with Frosty. I like Luke but I'm not so keen on the idea of him being stuck with someone as uninteresting as Maria. Luke needs to fall for someone else ASAP!
It's been boring so far and I don't think they've even got together properly yet. Can you imagine how dull it will when they are a couple?
I'm with the rest. Luke is great but Maria does seem to be dragging him down. She needs someone a little older and settled. Luke is still young and in that "sowing wild oats" stage, into clubbing etc. Maria is a single mum and more settled down.
I would like to see Luke being single and fancy-free for a long time. It would be fun to hear about his latest conquest as he recounts the tale to Kevin and Tyrone. His relationship with Maria is very dull.
His best scenes so far were the ones with Carla last year. I thought Luke came across really well in those scenes.
Love Luke, but not paired with Maria.
Love Luke and his sister (producers take note: this is how you ease new characters in) but it's a shame they got saddled with dull people. A lot of the younger people just seem so stodgy, and if they do do age-appropriate things like go to nightclubs or date around, it's hinted that they are too wild or out of control.
I'm with everyone else -- Luke is great, but he's much more fun when he's not around Maria.
Just like everyone else - love Luke but not with Maria. Maria seems to be the end for a lot of characters!
But I also love Steph and enjoy the two of them in scenes together. How often do we get siblings that genuinely love each other and aren't trying to kill each other in car accidents? Maybe even bring on their parents for an episode or two (but DON'T move them on to the street.)
Probably going to end up with Sarah..or maybe her daughter!
