This week, Inside Soap magazine celebrates its 20th birthday. That's quite a milestone. It's also quite a magazine! Running a Coronation Street fan website, I take an active interest in the soaps mags and, without wishing to sound like an advert or anything, Inside Soap magazine is the only one I ever buy because it's the only one that's ever got anything worthwhile to read in it.
The birthday edition of Inside Soap magazine is out in the shops tomorrow - Tuesday 26 June - with a 24 page soaps supplement. You can see Anne Kirkbride (Deirdre Barlow) looks excited about it already.
Inside Soap editor Steven Murphy blogs about the birthday celebrations here.

I enjoy Inside Soap and it's probably the best of the pick. However, soap mags have made it easy for writers to whizz through storylines without the need to show motivation or retain the authenticity of characters. A story line is 'leaked'; a character 'explains' why such-and-such is happening. There have been times when something isn't clear on the screen but the interview fills in the gaps. One example is when Teresa was feeding Jerry tablets because she didn't want to be thrown out. A long time ago and maybe people remember it differently, but I recall thinking how sloppy the writing was if a mag had to clear it up for me. Soaps move at such a pace now, sometimes I think mags ought to enclose a plot outline and viewers can make up their own script.
What a great photo of Anne Kirkbride!
Which again begs the question: What has happened to Deirdre?
