Coronation Street episode review, Wednesday 13 June 2012
Tonight's episode kicked off with a huge dose of vitriol and vituperation. First we have Peter and Leanne swiftly followed by Karl and Sunita, then back to Peter and Leanne. As the generous Stella tells Sunita she can stay as long as she wants, Karl can barely contain himself. Sunita gets in a low blow by telling him that she's not leaving just because it suits him. She boxes further by saying, 'Don't you guilt trip me. You're the one who cheated on her not me.'
There must be something brewing with Maria and Marcus. In the salon Maria tells all that her son, Liam, 'thinks the world of him' and continues with, 'Marcus is wonderful with him.' adding 'Marcus is wonderful full-stop.' So it doesn't require a Mensa IQ to see that Maria is in love with Marcus though when Audrey points it out directly to Maria, the poor girl appears so anxious at what must be the realisation that Audrey speaks the truth, that she leaves a rather confused Marcus in the pub, having refused his offer of a hot toddy and a DVD.
A touching moment with Stella and Leanne was presented to us this evening. Excellent acting ladies; utterly convincing reactions and words.Stella tells Leanne, 'You stay and you fight for that child.' In response to Leanne's cutting comment Stella rallies well and states that she knows from bitter experience how important it is.
Thank you to Eva for lifting the mood a little with her great comment that, 'It's a curse being this fabulous.' After feeling Jason's biceps, perhaps in a bid to awaken a dormant green monster in Nick, Jason tells her that 'she's a cracking bird.' Other viewers must have felt that we'd suddenly been flung several decades back in time with this kind of chat up line. Eva is no Germaine Greer and Jason is, well, Jason, but even so...Anyway Nick shows no sign of jealousy and offers Eva Monday night off for date night with Jason.
So, finally Leanne and Simon are properly reunited and the sniping will now hopefully end. Peter's sobbing at their departure was heartfelt. Just before Leanne and Simon leave Carla informs Simon that the new arrangement is for good. His response, 'I'm not thick,' is such a simple, yet such a brilliant piece of dialogue.
Just a final thought goes to Sunita. Is she a bunny boiler in training? Fatal Attraction? Sunita as Glenn Close and Karl as the hapless Michael Douglas? Exciting times coming our way!
