Last month it was announced by the official Coronation Street website at itv.com/corrie that actors Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) and Alison King (Carla Connor) would be taking a four month break from Coronation Street. Today, Digital Spy report that Chris Gascoyne will be away for not four months, but six.
Chris spoke to Digital Spy about the reasons for the half-year break from Corrie. Questioned over whether he had planned the hiatus for long, Chris replied: "No, not really. Things just snowball on. You
don't get a rest because there's no end to this show and when you have
got big storyline after big storyline you get very tired and you're not
really on top of your work. So much so I just needed a break to refresh myself and then come back and I'll be fine."
Of
how he will spend his time away from filming, the 44-year-old
father-of-three added: "There'll be a bit of family time and just time
to have a normal life really."
Chris recently praised Alex Bain, who plays his on-screen son Simon Barlow. Read about that here.

Assuming Leanne stays on the Street, six months leaves her lots of time to dally with Nick and/or others. Wonder if Carla is returning after four months, six months or at all?
Is it possible that Chris takes six months off work but he's only off screen for four? I know it's probably unrealistic that he'll film a number of scenes to be on-screen for weeks when he's not working, and presuambly the way that filming works, a week's worth of television isn't necessarily what was filmed in a week.
It'd be interesting if Peter and Carla don't return together...
Family comest first. I can see Carla coming back without Peter and him turning up a couple of months later...will be interesting to see how this is going to play out.
Thnk goodness, one change at least. Might give us all a break from this silly storyline.
Won't miss either of them. Don't like the sleazy storyline or the actors.
I will miss them big time!! Can't wait to see what happens when Peter and Carla return. I just hope Leanne and Nick leave them alone and stop taking Peter's son away from him.
They will be back with an explosive storyline at Christmas I reckon!
shame Carla's going, she is FIT
Just like to let Chris know that i was brought up in the same village as him and wondered if he can remember much about it.
