Michelle Collins statement: "I have no plans to quit"

This just in from the official ITV Coronation Street website, in response to the article from today's Sun newspaper claiming Michelle Collins is set to quit Coronation Street as Stella Price.

"Actress Michelle Collins has today denied reports that she is planning to quit Coronation Street. Following a story in a national newspaper, Michelle, who plays Rovers landlady Stella Price, said she is enjoying working on the show.

Michelle said: "I am very happy working on Coronation Street and have no plans to leave the show. I have recently signed a new contract for another 12 months and have not said I'm planning to leave the show after that time. I'm really enjoying playing Stella and have made some firm friends on the cast.

"There are a lot of exciting storylines in the pipeline for Stella, including the recent casting of Sue Johnston as her mum, and I'm relishing the chance to be part of such an amazing show."

Oh.

It's fair wiped the smile off my face that's been there since I read the Sun article this morning, I can tell you that much.

Oh well that's put a right downer on my day. Put a fair skip in me step that news had. Still... me thinks the lady MAY protest too much?

I can't abide her, hope she really does go

Let's not get too upset. Her immediate response to the article suggests tptb have given her a ticking off for speaking out of turn. She doesn't appear to say she was misquoted by the Sun. Again, isn't this what politicians say: 'I have no plans to resign ...' and then they vanish. Anyway, here's hoping!

She's not that bad, is she? I can think of worse characters than her. Remember Chris and Cheryl? Being Canadian I don't notice the different accent and don't know why it is a problem. Oh, well. she's not my favourite character, but not my least favourite either. (Dev can go anytime...)

Thats disappointing. I wouldn't be so bothered if she wasn't shoved down our throats all the time and involved with every other storyline. Now we got her mother coming in, another pointless character, can we not make use of the ones we have and are really underused. But I guess I shouldn't judge until its shown, but all this long lost families is getting dumb.

How disappointing. Insipid character.

Whatever the truth of this (and I doubt the Sun would entirely make up this story from thin air), her days are numbered. Karl has been ruined beyond repair and Stella is just not popular enough to continue in such a central role by herself. The article reeks of face saving to me.

She is vying with Michelle and Maria as most pointless character. Can we have an alternative top 60 poll - most pointless character? that would be great! John

When Collinson goes then Collins will go, she aint going to leave the gravy train that is Corrie unless she is pushed. The "want to spend more time with my family" claptrap is a cover up, politicians use that one as well.

I long for lepoardskin behind the bar. Shes not terrible shes just a bit of 'nothingness'. When the show hits 60 can you imagine any of her scemes being used in a montage?!- Micky

If I said prayers every night, I would pray for Collinson to go and take all his baggage with him, Collins, Cotton, Harvey et al.

Oh, disappointed that she's not going. I find her dry and boring. There's nothing about her that I can warm to. She just doesn't seem to fit in.

Maybe they will make her more interesting by bringing her mum in. Let's hope so.

I also cannot warm to Eva or Karl. I wish they'd axe the whole family. Karl is a sleazy cheat, and Eva is spoilt and stuck up. There are just no redeeming features, I can't believe they have this family at the centre of the street.

How about long suffering Gail, really sick of her.

Perhaps they Stella crew of Eva and Karl all locked in the cellar could make an exit sorry but they need to go
