Maggie Jones has died

Very sad news: Coronation Street actress Maggie Jones died this morning, aged 75.

The actress, who played the much-loved Blanche Hunt, passed away in hospital after losing a long battle with illness. There's a full story and a short obituary at the BBC news website.

Very sad news indeed.

I've just heard. Corrie has lost a great asset to the soap and has lost its comedy source. What a shame! I'll really miss her and No. 1 won't be the same now.

I got a bit tearful when I heard this on the news, she was a wonderful character and actress. Corrie will not be the same without her, she will be sorely missed, but always in our Corrie hearts.

Aww that's so sad. I know her health has been fragile for a few years. A major operation is very difficult to recover from at her age and obviously there was an underlying problem.

Oh my God. I actually found this out by reading it here, how terribly sad. Corrie will not be the same without her wit. What a terrible shame. Rest in peace, Maggie. You gave us many laughs.

This is very sad. 75 is no age these days. She was a talented actress and she made Blanche into a wonderful, memorable character, my favourite character on the Street. How she relished those lines! The Street isn't going to be the same without her.

Sad news indeed. Thoughts go to her family and her colleagues. How we will miss those great one-liners and acidic wit. RIP Maggie

It's desperately sad that Maggie has left us and leaves a big hole behind her. But Blanche is immortal and I'm sure she's be very proud to know that she created one of the all-time great characters in a programme that is itself a legend. In forty years time people will still speak lovingly of Blanche in the way they still remember Ena, Elsie & Minnie now. In a way this wonderful actress lives on. God bless her!

I actualy gasped when I saw the headline of Maggies passing. What a delight she has been. Her passing is very sad. She added so much to the street and I am sure she added even more to the lives of her friends and family. Bless you Maggie Jones. I hope the writers and producers of Corrie give Blanche a great send off.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Maggie's passing. I thought she was on the road to recovery? There will be a big hole left by the departure of Blanche, I wonder how they will write her out. They have lost their best character in my opinion. RIP.

I never used to like Blanche, I always thought she was a mean-spirited, spiteful old bitch. But in recent years, I have warmed to her once I finally "got" the humour and the truthfulness of most of what she had to say.

I now know that I will miss the character much more than I ever thought possible.

RIP Maggie.
