Today is an anniversary. It is the anniversary of the arrival on the cobbles of the McDonald family. Only one of them has been in Coronation Street on an ongoing basis for all 20 years and that's our Steve! The Mirror has an interview with Simon Gregson here. He talks about many of his memories of playing Steve over the years including his five trips down the aisle, and interestingly, he says "It took me about 14 years to learn how to become an actor." I would have to agree with that. I didn't really think much of his acting until the late 90s and then it seemed he settled into the role and his comic timing came out to the forefront. He's one of the Street's top favourite characters and now he's the owner of the Rovers, it looks like we'll not lose him for a long time. There's a character study over here and there are lots of rubbery faced Steve Gurns here.

The anniversary is actually the 6th, not the 4th. The report states the anniversary is this week, not today.
Wow - 20 years! Where has the time gone. I do like Steve, and used to love his relationship with Karen.
Steve is a brilliant character, and like the above poster I loved him with Karen.
I love Stevie Mac. Simon is amazing at visual comedy, those facial expressions have me in creases.
Technically, ok, it's the 6th. Which is Sunday but to be really picky, it should be about 4 or 5 weeks earlier when Simon first arrived on the set.
Gosh that makes me feel old.
When he first appeared, he was listed as Simon Gregory, which I believe is his real name.
