Eccentric
window cleaner Graeme Proctor became an instant hit with fans when he was David
Platt’s cellmate in the Young Offenders Institute. He was charged with arson
although during his stint on the street he never caused any damage to property.
Originally a guest character, his popularity amongst fans gained him a regular
role and he lodged with the Platts and was employed at Ashley Peacock’s butcher
shop, forming a close friendship with the squeaky voiced butcher. Due to his
comedic potential, Graeme often shared scenes with Norris and Rita and often
put Norris’ nose out of joint. When he found himself homeless, he found
lodgings with Emily Bishop to Norris’ chagrin. Quite unexpectedly, Graeme found
romance with feisty Tina McIntyre who was best mate David’s ex. Graeme had
helped Tina through her grief after losing dad Joe and they fell for each other.
But their romance hit a snag when Tina wanted to help friend Xin Chiang to stay
in the country and wanted Graeme to marry her in a bid to obstruct her being
transported. But the sham marriage turned into true love and Graeme and Xin
decided to leave the street and a heartbroken Tina behind.

While Graeme was a great character, I don't think he was in the show long enough to merit a top-10 place.
These polls, by there very nature, always produce results skewed in favour of more recent characters/books/records &c. We have to accept that many people voting (perhaps the majority) simply aren;t old enough to remember Annie, Ena and Elsie in their glory days. In a sense, that's a good thing because it means the show has constantly found a fresh audience among younger generations.
But congratulations to Craig Gazey for his placement here; it's quite an accomplishment to have made such an instant impact with a character (especially for a young actor) and Graham was a genuinely engaging and funny and unique character There was something of the Eddie Yeats about him, while at the same time being very much a one off. Had he stayed with the show longer, I've no doubt he would have become one of the great iconic characters, but he's a dedicated actor who needs to set himself new challanges. Good luck to him, and hope he comes back one day.
I liked Graeme, although I kinda went off him when he got with Tina and the whole sham marriage and exit.
Bring back Graeme! He was one of my favourites, and like the above comment says I dont know who the 3 characters above are, ive heard there name spoken only.

I simply can't believe it. I would highly suggest those hundred and some-odd people get the videos and actually watch Corrie!
I like Graeme. Glad he's done well in this poll.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The poll is not scientific, it's fun. FUN. You must remember fun, people, come on....
Graeme was fab, and if they hadn't ruined him with Tina (pairing the most cheerful, happy-go-lucky fella on the street with the most miserable fishwife) and then the credulity-straining Xin story, he could have turned into a real Street classic. Would love to see him come back; the character was beautifully written and acted only to get rushed out the door in another bodge by the producers.
