Gemma's mum - Yay or Nay?

Gemma's mum Bernie has certainly made an impression in the short time she's been on the Street. I half hate her and half love her.

I hate her because she's calculating and greedy, coming back into Gemma and Paul's lives only because she's found out that there's money to be had. There's clearly a back story of neglect too between her and Paul. And I adore Paul.

But I love her because she's funny. Anyone who can call Chesney Chutney and make me laugh isn't all that bad.

What do you think so far about Gemma's mum, Yay or Nay?

My mind is clouded by years of loving Dixie on Casualty. BUT, while many characters show up with a strong flaw or two that need serious smoothing out (remember Yasmeen the shouting librarian, creepy Roy, Evelyn) Bernie is out of control. Broke and looking for a handout, lying, coming on to Ches, thinking naked breakfast is okay, too much too fast. She’s like all the older Tinkers rolled into one. For now, a NAY but I reserve the right to change my mind in a month.

Obviously, she's meant to be loathsome. This has been a very boring storyline with dull or unlovable characters and it needed to be livened up. Not yet sure if this is the right way. My guess is that she won't be around for long. Disaster will strike the pregnancy and she'll be off, or she'll find a rich fella/conman and be off, or any number of exit possibilities.

Waste of a good actress so I hope she leaves soon. Of course the writers may be planning to "reform" her but that's been done too often already.

I think I heard Roy say he had an advert somewhere for a member of of staff, I wonder who might get that job.

What a waste of a good actress! Like others I had years of loving Dixie in Casualty and was glad she was joining Corrie, but not in this role. "We have far too muchof the Gemma and Chesney show, and they are takingover it seems these days.
Corrie attracts really good people and then the writers don't know what to do with them. Shame!

Definitely agree, waste of a good actress. Why is she such a slob?

Here in Canada, we are 2 weeks behind you in the U.K., so we have yet to see her. But with all I've read about her, I am not looking forward to it. I've been a faithful viewer for 30 plus years and I have never been so disgusted with a character. As Anonymous said, why is she such a slob? Now we knew where she gets it from. The sooner Gemma and her family, including the quads, leave the better.
