9. Jack & Vera's Last Dance (2010)

It was always going to be a sad day when we lost the legend that was Jack Duckworth. It had been sad enough to have seen him on his own for the past couple of years following the death of his beloved Vera. At the end of 2010, Tyrone organised a party in the Rover's for Jack's 74th birthday, aware that this would be his last as he had an incurable form of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. During his party, Jack told Molly that he had heard her conversation with Kevin and knew that he was baby Jack's real dad, and that Molly should move the family away from Weatherfield. He then returned home and passed away peacefully in his armchair, being joined by the ghost of Vera whom he dances with one last time. On paper it might sound like it went a bit weird, but watching it was beautiful and a fitting end to an iconic duo. Tyrone, Molly and Connie later came home and found Jack dead in the chair, where a tearful Tyrone said "Goodnight Dad" (think about the ending of Goodnight Mr Tom then multiply that emotion by a hundred). It was flawless and perfect in every way, Corrie at its absolute best. Rest in peace to the wonderful Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn who created a masterpiece in Jack and Vera.

A shame this didn't wait until 2020 - we still have 14 months left of the 2010s to go!

Great choice, that would be near the top of my 10! Matt Monro on the record player, very moving!
