Ken and Yasmeen - Yay or Nay?
Inspired by Jeannie's comment on my blog post about 5 Corrie Couples Who Shouldn't Be Together, how about a possible Corrie coupling of these two, above?
Ken Barlow hasn't had a lady friend in a very long time and Yasmeen has been on her own since Sharif's affair was exposed and she threw him out.
At Ken's 78th birthday celebrations this week, he had a small dinner party to which Audrey, Roy, Cathy and Brian were invited. It would have been a nice touch if Yasmeen had been invited too, I think. And who knows, perhaps friendship with Ken might lead to a touch more excitement between these two?
Shelley King, who plays Yasmeen Nazir, is to my mind a really good actress playing a character that has the potential to become one of Corrie's classic women. She might not need to have a fling with Ken to give her the storyline she needs on the street, rather than waiting to become a grandmother to her son and his cheating wife. But wouldn't it be fun if she did?

I really do like Yasmine's character, I think her and Ken would be good together.
What an interesting thought! They're both intellectuals and would share a lot of similar passions. I like the idea, plus with what's to happen between Zeedan and Rana, Yesmeen could do with the advice considering the Barlows history! Hmmm... ... ...
No. I love Yasmeen and I also like Ken, but keep Yasmeen single for a while. She's a strong independent who doesn't need to be in a relationship right now
the pretentiousness would be overwhelming! No thank you.
As I put them together on the original post, I’d say yay, put them together. Even if it doesn’t develop into something romantic (thanks, Tracy), I’d like to see them as special friends, theatre or book club buddies for example. Some type of outside interest they can talk about and others can gossip about at the Rovers.
Jeanie (anon):
Nay from me--Ken is too geriatric, too pretentious, too dysfunctional for Yasmeen who is much more down to earth, dynamic and no-nonsense. Plus Ken for all his intellectual pretensions doesn't actually seem to value that in his women--I doubt if he would be very comfortable with a woman as sharp and to the point sa Yasmeen. If Yasmeen needs to be paired off--then put her with Roy--they seemed much better matched and Roy is unlikely to be bothered by her sharpness...not to mention Sylvia vs. Yasmeen if she were ever to return.
I agree with Jeanie (anon). Yasmeen is too educated for Ken and he is too stuffy for her. Definitely not a romantic couple; maybe they could go to the theatre now and again or start a book club in the community centre. We don't really know much about Yasmeen but possibly she would only want a relationship with someone from her own culture. If that's the case, we haven't met them yet. Seventy eight is young these days but, perhaps due to his medical history, Ken seems quite doddery. If he was to hook up with anyone long-term, they would need to fuss over him. Ken has all these kids and none of them see it as their job to look after their father on a day-to-day basis.
Yasmeen ism waiting to be a great grandmother. Her son and daughter in law are both dead. Zeedan is her grandson.
I think a relationship of some kind between these 2 would be really interesting, especially considering Ken's pretensions. I can see Yasmeen poking great holes in Ken's pronouncements, which should make for some interesting scenes. Let's face it, many of their interests are similar.
If Yasmeen were not to blame Tracey for the fire which killed her son Kal (oh yes she did!) then I would say there is a possibility. After all during his years on the street Ken has bedded his fair share of the ladies. He won't be getting many more opportunities to meet suitable women his age. Yasmeen's probably lonely...but nope..wouldn't work..Tracey Tracey Tracey
When Yasmeen first showed up I thought she might a new girlfriend for Ken. I think their similarities and differences would make for an interesting match.
