Stuart Blackburn talks about upcoming storylines

Digital Spy has the first part of a great two part interview with Corrie producer Stuart Blackburn on their site today. Part two will be posted there tomorrow. He's got a lot to say about upcoming and current storylines and characters with hints of things to come

October will be a major storyline month with Peter's trial, Tracy and Rob's wedding. Regarding the upcoming exit for both Peter and Rob, he says "Absolutely. They'll both be very different exits - one will be very high-octane and explosive, while the other one will be a lot sadder. I can't say which is which, though!" (I think I can probably guess)

He comments that Carla will immerse herself in the factory but that her and Roy's friendship will surface again near Christmas. The Platts are apparently going to have a "life-changing" Christmas, too, David in particular. We should see Kylie's ex surface about then.  The season will be rough for Roy and a bit rocky for Steve in the pub.

The New Year will also bring something devastating.

"Yes, coming up in the New Year, there is a real tragedy that's going to affect a dozen or so of our characters. Last year we had David and the car crash and of course that was a stunt, but it genuinely felt like it had come from story. It wasn't us suddenly deciding that we needed to do something spectacular to get the viewers.

"It's the same with what we're planning, because it'll come from a relatively long-running story. It is going to be spectacular and a little bit heartbreaking!"

Blackburn confirms that Faye will indeed become pregnant and we'll see how that affects the Windass Family and Faye herself, who  hasn't had an easy time of it in her short life. He says he's bringing along new characters in a "slow burn" to ease them in and we'll soon be meeting Zeedan Nazir, the last of the Nazir family. The contention between he and his father, Kal, will be explored. It actually sounds like it might be interesting.

We often worry that these sensational stories are bringing Corrie to its knees but I often find, in most cases, the stories are handled well and acted superbly. They are often a lot less "explosive" than the PR machine would have us believe.

Part two of the interview will be published on Digital Spy tomorrow.

Oh goodness, please let someone in the Windstrong clan snuff it! Or let Faye be taken away by child services and Tim fights to get custody of her! Something that divides and conquers this annoying screen-hog family.

I wonder what the big event will be! Also interested on who else is being brought back next year. I wonder if it could be Curly???

I wonder whether the big event will involve Roy experiencing a terrible Christmas and having to face the first anniversary of Hayley's death. Maybe he deals with it in a very dramatic way. I also think Curly may be coming back, especially after the previous publicity. His return might be linked to Kevin's storyline.

I think the sad story will be Katy's exit - that'll affect at least 12 of the WindArm clan! ;) -John H

Although I'm not looking forward to another Platt Christmas episode, perhaps Nick who is now faking aeizures, cries wolf once too often and dies from his brain injury?
I also wonder if the truth about Rob killing Tina comes out on his wedding day hence the 'explosive'and sad angle.

An old character coming back?! Well I hope they get better treatment than Philip Lowrie got.

Not looking forward to the Faye story at all.. how much misery can one family take? And it sounds like she will have the baby from the full interview. At the risk of offending anyone, I would have thought that she would have considered her other alternatives..

Oh the usual "explosive" and "life changing" over-used mantras. Its pretty obvious as Paula Lane is expecting, her ex will return and because he will get on so well with his natural son Max who has suddenly changed from a quiet shy child to an uncontrollable nuisance, Kylie will leave with him leaving David another overused word - "devastated". The Self Pity Machine that is Peter is now dragging on somewhat even though CG is an excellent actor. Then we will have the usual wedding fiasco when Rob is arrested while tying the knot to Tracyluv, leaving her free to break up Tony and Liz's relatonship which will leave Liz free to get back with Big Jim. The only good thing is Roy's friendship with Carla, thank goodness its not going to be the overbearing Yasmeen.

Same old Stuart Blackburn spouting the usual promo of "explosive" stuff to come when most of the plot will be as dull as dishwater. A few will be compelling and show shades of genuine heated plots shown in an entertaining way but the rest is predictable done in the usual lazy manner. Maybe the less said by SB, the better.

btw -- not really looking forward to yet another under-age/non-wed birth esp. from over-exposed Faye character from over-used Windass family.

I hope they handle Faye's storyline differently from Sarah Lou's. Both about the same age, etc. They tout this as the youngest ever because SL was 13 when she had Beth but she was 12 when she got pregnant too, though was barely 13 when it was discovered, 5 months gone, nobody seems to remember that.

God, I hope they aren't thinking of pairing Carla up with Roy. What a disaster that would be.
I'm assuming Craig is the father of Faye's baby.

Tvor, that is what I am hoping too..

I can't wait to see the look on Tracy's face at the revelation that her fiancé is Tina's killer!
I hope it all happens at the altar, that WOULD be an explosive story!

Not looking forward to more Windass angst.

Also, very predictable exit story-lines. "High octane and explosive" = Rob is being killed off, no question. "A lot sadder" = Peter's exit, due to almost nobody believing him and his son hating him, to the point even after he's exonerated he'll think it's better to just go away. Until a few years later when they rehash the Sleaze Peter plot yet again with some new victim.

Why can't they have Faye get straight A's at school and decide she is aiming for university? Now, that really WOULD be explosive and would astonish us all!
Another teen pregnancy? Yawn.....
