Corrie's funeral fisticuffs

It might just be me but it really does feel that no Corrie wedding or funeral can take place without a good old punch up. I don't have specific stats on this claim but I struggle to remember a Weatherfield hitch up or send off that hasn't involved a touch of theatrical violence, a threat or a raised stiletto.

And here we go again this evening as the increasingly turgid triumverate of Peter, Rob and Carla circle Tina's grave like glamorous back street vultures. Either Peter punches Rob or Rob punches Peter, but whoever it is, a brawl ensues and arrests will no doubt follow.

Can't we just have one church-based scene without an accusation being volleyed down the aisle or wronged loved ones leaping across the pews for a heated debate in t'vestry? I do love a bit of heightened tension but I actually think it would be quite novel to have one of these ceremonial events chug on to completion without intervention from the inept local constabulary.

You would think by now the residents of Coronation Street might think twice before wading in with fists flying before Liz has managed to put the pork pies on the plates back at the Rovers. Also, with just a small nod to reality, would punch ups and brawls really take place during nuptuals and wakes?

Anyway, I look forward with a certain amount of doom-laden relish to Tina's funeral this evening.

So what is your favourite Corrie wedding punch up or funeral fisticuffs?

Jack and Vera's funerals were both dignified and tear-inducing. And strictly speaking, if the punch up is in the cemetery, at least it's not *in* the church. But my favourite one was Tyrone knocking Kevin into Molly's grave. Lurid it may have been but it was pure Karmic justice!

Oh yes, and Karen and Steve's wedding (per the photo), with Karen threatening Tracy with the red stiletto! Sometimes I don't mind a bust up at a wedding/funeral/christening depending on whether it *really* fits with the storyline or if it's just contrived. Peter causing ructions leans to the contrived. Tracy interrupting Steve's wedding pushed the storyline forward as everyone then knew who Amy's dad was. That worked. So did Tyrone bashing Kevin because then everyone knew the truth and Kevin became a pariah. This doesn't add a lot to the overall storyline.

Lord, I hated those silly staged photographs of punches and slaps. None of them look remotely realistic and make the programme look stupid. The recent one of Rita slapping Tina was ludicrous.

I may be a naive idiot but I don't understand what Rob and Carla are doing at Tina's funeral in the first place. Surely it is the height of the macabre to show up just to make sure someone's in the ground?

Totally tired of the fisticuffs and shouting that seem the hallmark of every supposedly sacred scene in Coronation Street.
I do remember liking the, (hate to admit it), excitement that the marriage of Steve and Karen brought to the screen, but I also liked Karen, who made a fitting adversary for Tracy.
That was the only one I enjoyed, all of the others are remarkable for at least something going wrong, which is predictable and reminds you that this show is make believe; hard for a long time viewer to get used to.

Tina's death seems to have largely become about Peter and Carla, rather than Tina...
or is it just me?

good point. Why would Carla, who is one of the murder suspects and has no love lost for Tina now, why would she go to the funeral? Rob as well, unless it was to put the police off the scent and he'd be there to "support Carla" which brings us back to the first point.

Isn't there a Police theory (at least in whodunnit mysteries, if not in real life) that the murderer will be compelled to attend their victim's funeral?

Carla said she was 'less angry' so her going to the funeral was a reconciliation. Actually, it was a device to get Rob there so he could have a fight with Peter.

I agree Humpty, it was just a device to cause more tension and aggro at the graveside...it didn't quite work for me

Talia - I agree the confrontation between Karen and Tracy was super, mainly thanks to Suranne Jones being excellent throughout :)

Tvor - I'd forgotten about Tyrone punching Kevin! I loved that! It felt good, I'm ashamed to say!

Carla going to funeral was so unrealistic if we are to believe the mess Carlas understandably been in since these revelations and miscarriage to this calm, collected and in control woman. They say grief has a number of stages, carla was quick dealing with hers.... Maybe shes used to it now with all the husband/ partners/ other womens hubbys deaths! Im getting a little worried with corries portrayal of carla, she is like a black widow..... Seems like it was all cintived to create unessassary tention and tacky fights. I would if prefered a calmer, sensetive funeral to counter all the over the top strife weve had over few weeks. By the way, what the heck with Tinas mum? Why on so many questions was she brought in. waste, unbelievable intro and appearence of Ann and her emitional interaction, not goid corrie.

Tvor, I'd forgotten that too, but 'yes' didn't it feel so good at the time!
Graeme, Karen was one of the few characters I was truly sorry to see leave the street, she had such energy and various forms of tension were built into, and carried through every scene by Suranne Jones.
