Bill Roach leaves Preston Magistrates Court Credit: PA Wire |
Bill Roache, who plays Coronation Street's Ken Barlow, has today appeared in court charged with two cases of rape of a 15-year-old girl. Roache is alleged to have attacked the girl in 1967.
The actor spent the majority of the seven-minute hearing at Preston magistrates court with his hands clasped behind his back. He confirmed his address and date of birth and gave his full name as William Patrick Roache. He was bailed to appear for a preliminary hearing at Preston crown court on 10 June.
Roache was allowed to remain free on bail and left the court with his solicitor, Brian Russell. He made no comment. The court heard the actor has already surrendered his passport. While on bail he can live either at his own home or at the home of a relative in London. One of the bail conditions is that he should have no unsupervised access to anyone under the age of 16. Roache is also barred from making contact with two named individuals.
