Did you realize that this month is the 10th anniversary for the character of Dev Alahan? Strewth! Dev has indeed been with us that long. Some love him, some hate him, some find him attractive and some find him too much of an oily-smooth operator. He's settled into the Street and has become a fixture in the corner shop even though he owns a handful of them. They seem to run themselves these days but nevertheless, Dev fancies himself a businessman, a man about town and a ladies' man. He's not been very lucky in love, however and has certainly had his ups and downs. Do you consider him a silly character or a snake? Read both sides of the coin over here.
Regardless of whether he's your favourite or not, I can't really picture Coronation Street without him!

I will repeat my comments put under another post. Dev was a great character when he appeared in the 90s but now he is oh so stale and needs to go. He comes across as oily, insincere and irritating. There is a great opportunity for a new family to take over the corner shop.
Yes, i saw that Matilda, that actually inspired my post :)
Oh Dear - Dev is just a silly old fart trying to regain his youth..LOL - he's adorable in his own way (not a wicked bone in this one) and with the wife soon to return he'll be with us for a while longer!
He is a bit on the greasy side - but so are 1/2 the men on this planet - his harmless enough - let's just send him on a longish vacation until his wife and the twins return....she was bothering me more them he ever had though....
I think he has good scenes with Amber, we see a softer and more human side to Dev. It's also quite heart-warming that they are so close, considering they have only really known each other for a few years.
Other than that, he's a bit annoying because he has an inflated ego and most of his storylines invlove his relationships with women and how he fails with them. They don't seem to know how to develop the character IMO, so maybe he should go. But then again, I do like Amber and Sunita.
I like him. I'm new to Corrie, but I like him because he's oily, a playboy ladies man, snob, completely taken with his idea of a high-flying businessman -- but his scenes with daughter Amber were good. He's a good employer to Molly. We need someone on the street who's perpetually single -- having yet another family move in with children, dog, etc... complicates the mix...we just need a better storyline for Dev -- this new golf pro might just be it -- I thought the golf competition with ol' Stevie was just plain silly, but the lady golf pro thing has potential...I'm hoping it's got legs (the story, that is) and takes off for tall, dark, (well, somewhat) handsome Dev...

Could we bloggers be so bold as to suggest other topics for discussion? I would like to ask, do characters lose their popularity/no longer fit in when they take a break? Carla being a case in point, also Leeane, and Hayley has never really been the same since she went on her stint to Africa. thanks,Tvor
