Women of a certain age (that's me and our blogger Tvor covered, then) will remember a certain Coronation Street character called Charlie Whelan. He was a long-distance lorry driver with a big rig who wooed Bet Lynch in the back room of the Rovers. He then broke her heart when he had a fling with fellow Rovers barmaid, The Evil Tanya Pooley.
An email today to the blog prompts me to note that John Saint Ryan, the actor who played Charlie Whelan, is now a big noise in Hollywood. He's appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer on telly as well as major films. Who'd have thought it, eh?
Note: Charlie Whelan, under no circumstances, must ever be confused with Charlie West. See Tvor's blog for more!
