Character Study: Maria Sutherland Connor

In advance of Maria's world about to be blown to bits, we present a character study of Maria Connor over on State of the Street.

See how Maria has grown from a shy kennel maid to a woman who keeps picking the wrong man time and again. She's pretty much outdone herself this time by choosing the murderous Tony Gordon but in the past she's stolen boyfriends from her friends and jumped into one night stands hoping to find Mr. Right instead of Mr. Right Now.

Good character study. I really like Maria, mainly because she's grown as a character since her marriage to Liam and her stillbirth. She used to be quite self-absorbed and tarty but she's changed, and got her priorites right. So much bad stuff has happened to her I think it has helped her to put everything into perspective.

She is still naive and too trusting but you end up feeling sorry for her because she I think she is genuinely a nice person and she just wants to be happy.

Also, I think the storylines of the past year or so have demonstrated that Samia Smith is a very good actress. I hope Maria is on our screens for a long time to come :)

Great write-up on this nutty character's foolish (love), meandering life! I had no idea that there was history between Maria and Fiz...Fiz went after Tyrone? These Corrie women -- they really stop at nothing when they're after a man!

I'm not sure the actress is all that great. The only part I really liked was when she tried to go after Tony for Liam's murder but even that got tiring...she's pretty and all, but I don't see much "presence" no matter what the storyline. I'm glad she's going to be off for a while -- chance to give the other women characters some screen time...
