The big news this week has been baby Aled’s diagnosis. He has profound hearing loss in both ears. I have to say that the way in which Dolly-Rose Campbell and Sam Aston are playing this story as Gemma and Chesney is breaking my heart. Looking after four babies isn’t easy, and they’ve got little help (*cough* ask Rita *cough*). They’re stressed, exhausted, been living in the same clothes for weeks. They hardly know what day it is or if they’re coming or going. And so when Aled’s hearing test clashes with Tara at Freshco’s big presentation to management, things come to a head. Chesney walks into the presentation, has a go at Tara, and walks out after announcing: “The chavs have left the building.” Finally! Chesney grows a pair! However, saying ta-ra to Tara and telling Freshco to, er, find another pair of mugs to patronise, means that Gemma and Chesney are back to being skint.
This was the week when sleazy sex pest Ray made his slimy presence felt on the cobbles. He’s determined to find out who torched his car and it’s not looking good for Abi. That is, until Kevin steps up and lies to save her, giving her an alibi. He tells the cops Abi was with him and despite CCTV evidence to the contrary, it looks like Abi and Kevin might just get away with it. However, Ray menaces the newly courting couple on the cobbles and tells them that new evidence has come to light that means they’re both going to get arrested and locked up in Weatherfield nick.
Speaking of Weatherfield Nick, he’s celebrating Oliver’s 3rd birthday this week along with the Platt clan as Sarah and Adam plan their wedding. Gail takes it upon herself to be their wedding organiser because of her past experience in the world of weddings. “I have done rather a lot,” she tells them. Indeed! At Underworld, Sally and Izzy get themselves an invite to the wedding for helping with Sarah’s wedding dress while Sean and Beth are put out they’re they’ve been excluded. Sarah does the decent thing to stop her workforce huffing out and invites them all.
Elsewhere this week, Ed finds out that son James is gay. The Bailey’s are new to us fans, I don’t care about Ed and I don’t know enough about James. I find Michael annoying. Danny has been shoehorned in as an old mate of Ed's so that he'll feel conflict about his friend and his son. I. Just. Don't. Care. It always feels, to me, as if the actor who plays Ed is reading the lines from his script loud enough so that the producer of EastEnders can hear him. Heaven help us if we get Ed and Dev in the same scene doing a double Brian Blessed.
In other news, after Maria shagged Ali in the salon, she now agrees to marry Gary and flashes her diamond ring with pride. Ali’s cut up about being cut out of Maria’s life and stumbles around with a bad hairdo.
And that’s just about that for this week.

Danny being an "old mate" of Ed's stretches credulity. They talk as if they haven't seen each other for years, but Danny is only 22. Was he working with Ed as a schoolboy?! Far more likely he'd been a pal of James.
I agree Michael is very annoying with his ridiculous get-rich-quick schemes. He should just get a job!
Summed up nicely as you didn't have a lot to work with. Dislike the Bailey Family....why are they here? Don't care either. Gemma and Chez need an agent, Maria needs a chastity belt, Ali needs a haircut....and the Platts? They need a bigger house
