Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 19 Feb 7.30 & 8.30pm

Over the last few weeks, the Freshco four marketing campaign has caused some light farcical comedic refreshment (as funny as quads can be), with photoshoot mishaps and photoshopped bonces on buses. However, on the day of the Freshco four product launch, Aled's hearing appointment clashes with Tara's tight itinerary and Gemma (quite rightly) prioritising her child's health, has them rushing to get to the launch on time. Chesney tries to appease Gemma with the promise of campaign cash but her first-time motherhood and Aled's hearing problem take precedence.

Corrie's answer to Bonnie and Clyde, aka Kevin and Abi, continue to be hounded by the cops over Abi's half-arsed arson attack. Kev's very chivalrous Abi alibi (see what I did there) has him caught out by CCTV and the threat of criminal proceedings seem ever real. Believable? hardly, but orchestrated to bring Kev and Abi together which is fine I guess. Can we see this relationship working out?

Fiz feels paranoid about Hope and Jade's relationship and still questions the motives of Hope's half-sister. Feeling panicked following Christine's appointment, Fiz decides its time to take Hope away again (and the rest of the family) for a well-earned break. As they leave the street though, it seems Jade isn't too far away.

With the arrival of temporary (newly out) Bistro boss Danny and his revealed friendship with Edison, James' coming out story has been slowly building up over the last week. Ed's invested emotions in this friendship with Danny and awkwardness on finding out about his pal's sexuality has forced James to finally confess and 'come out' to his Dad. At the kitchen table James struggles to deliver the news in the form of a football analogy and frustrated, he blurts it out in earshot of Ed.

Ed seems perturbed at first on finding out his whole family already knew but is quick to embrace and accept James for who he is. So that's that then? Hardly, the coming out is just the beginning as I reckon the real drama will come when James comes out to his teammates and fans? He also admits to Ed that his 'friend' Danny is his boyfriend! The shock causes Edison to lash out at Danny, and which James overhears. Is Edison's behaviour foreshadowing what will happen when James comes out to the football fraternity? Ed grapples with Angie as his homophobia comes to the fore. Will this outing cause problems in their marriage?

With secrets being exposed, Maria admits to Carla that she's slept with Dr Ali and appears to regret it. Will Gary find out and teach Ali a lesson (aka give him a beating) I imagine so, but getting Maria to agree to marry him is probably just as good!

Back at the campaign launch, Gemma and Chesney realise that the babies are the priority and the marketing campaign is a farce after all, and a false one at that. Realising that the money isn't worth it, Chesney defends his family in front of the assembled audience BUT the cash cow campaign contract is cancelled!

Still, in his kebab uniform, Chez begs Dev for his job back. What happens now for the quads, Gemma, and Chez?

Is Ed a complete homophobe or is this just well-timed social commentary? I liked the dramatic u-turn but I can't see Ed cementing himself as a bigot on that street, can you?

This episode aired on the same day that gay footballer Justin Fashanu, was inducted into Manchester's Football Hall Of Fame; READ HERE  it's certainly well-timed!
