Coronation Street Episode Review, Weds 11 Oct, 7.30pm

Welcome to tonight's first episode in this weekly Wednesday Weatherfield double.  In recent week's, the Wednesday double has been high drama, high-end wedding disasters, and the raising of the factory roof (any ideas anyone?).  Tonight, however, was a return to high-jinx, food-related double-entendres (only sausage for Rosie, Roy) and a drunken liaison.
One drunken liaison has had serious repercussions for Nicola, as we find out she's carrying baby Windass and as for a broody Rana, she remains conflicted and confused over her feelings for the bistro babe, Kate.

With Todd's curiosity getting the better of him, he instructs 'legally blonde' Rosie to take Rana out for a drink with Sophie's amazing fringe, for a Monday afternoon wine and shopping spree.
Surely Rana shouldn't be drinking if preparing for pregnancy?.  After a chat with Rosie about a near miss girl-on-girl experience, which was, in fact, an androgynous-looking male, a drunken Rana decides its time to confront Kate with her overbearing feelings...

As Yasmeen is overjoyed at the thought of her first grandchild, what gives with Phelan?. I hadn't had him down as pro-life (Andy in the cellar, the demise of Michael etc) but I wonder how long before his defensive demeanor of Nicola, does a full 360-degree turn?. The look on his face when he finds out its the 'child of Windass' was priceless, and another fearsome performance from Connor McIntyre. Just who will Phelan's replacement be, and how much longer can Andy survive on mixed beans?.  Also looking doubtful of survival are Shona and David. However, after a heartfelt monologue from little Max, it looks like reconciliation may well be on the cards.

Outside the kebab shop, and after Brian's beef related shower disaster, Asha & Amy are trying to coerce little Summer into their 'dare' gang and bizarrely aim this next prank at Roy. Brian meanwhile, is wishing to borrow Roy's 'woody' to take Cathy over to see 'Phoney M' down at 'The Palace'. A Boney-M tribute act?.  Daddy- Cool he certainly isn't. As the trio of young girls is soon armed with some windscreen wash, I knew where this was going. Another comedy classic from Corrie is created.

As Nicola's 'Daddy Cool' is still in Leeds / down the cellar, Daniel Barlow decides to sneak around the builder's yard, only to be caught by Miss Rubinstein. Daniel must have more 'afternoon delight' planned with his boss, as that can only be the answer for this continued investigation into the Calcutta Street Scandal, he's just asking for trouble?!. Rana is also asking for trouble (and maybe 'afternoon delight'), as one too many wine glasses lead to a drunken kiss with Kate.

Just where will all this lead?.
Will Rana regret the misplaced kiss?. Will Asha & Amy form a new Boney-M tribute act?.

Speak next week.

Great review, Ryan!
I doubt Phelan is pro-life, more like pro-Phelan, it figures he'd want his genes carried forward since he acts as if everyone exists for his convenience.

No. You're wrong. He said he was against abortion due to his Catholic upbringing

You don't say? And did he mention which part of his Catholic upbringing he was following when he swindled the Armstrongs, coerced Anna into adulterous sex, let one man die and kidnapped another? To boot he said that with a straight face to a woman who only exists because he had an affair with someone else's wife? Yeah, right, this is all about Phelan's deep respect for his religion's principles.

I think anon was only repeating what Pat said were his views on the subject of abortion. Nothing else about his character.

My first comment was to doubt the sincerity of Phelan's pro-life stance.Since anonymous mentioned the excuse Phelan gave for it, I pointed out the incredible unlikelihood that someone as irreligious and unprincipled as him in every other way would sincerely be pro-life because of religion.
In other words, that's merely the excuse he's giving Nicola to mask how self-centered he is.

You never know. Everyone has a line they're not willing to cross, however unprincipled they may be, and the subject with Phelan is abortion. That subject had never cropped up with him before, so we've never known his stance on this subject
