Corrie's Antony Cotton has been quoted on Digital Spy talking about upcoming plans for his character Sean. Now Sean is very popular with some viewers, less so with others but I think it's a shame he's not been given much to do in recent years.
Antony has been a part of the Corrie cast since 2003 so he has staying power. I really liked Sean when he was first introduced. The set up chez Grimshaw worked a treat in those days with Sean, Eileen and Jason all under one roof. Something has gone a bit wrong more recently though, so I'm hoping a return to the forefront of the programme will help to address this.
We don't know much about Sean's new storyline however Antony Cotton has commented that it will be controversial and something that hasn't been covered before. Sounds interesting? Well yes of course if that's the case. I remember similar things being said when Eileen got involved with Paul and Lesley. However the Alzheimer's story HAD been done on Corrie before, back in 2000 with Rita, Anthony Stephens and his wife Isabel.
I wonder what will happen to Sean and if it will be linked to the current Todd story and the subsequent departure of Sean's ex, Marcus. I really do hope it's not a rehash of something that has been done before but I'm scratching my head to imagine what it might be. The return of Sean's son Dylan perhaps?
Anyway, what do you think of Sean's return to the Corrie front line? And what do you think his big storyline will be?

I also like Sean. Like Mary he's an underused talent.
I'm betting he finds out he has AIDS. It would be a great storyline to explore. Also,it will give the public current information relating to the disease.
Maybe Violet dies and Sean has to raise Dylan. He buys the betting shop and... oh wait.
Maybe Sean meets a new fella who turns into a bit of a stalker, kidnaps Dylan and ... oh wait..
It's very unfortunate, though understandable, that characters have to live/virtually live together in groups in order for the interaction to happen. Gary and Izzy never seem to eat in their own home; in fact, I really have forgotten where they live.
Has Sean lodged with Eileen for ten years? He doesn't seem to have matured at all. It's this arrested development that makes it hard to take him seriously these days. Anthony Cotton may rise to the challenge of a major storyline; other background characters have been given the same and have failed to carry it off. We'll see. As for what the story is, I wonder if it's health-related though it's hard to think what aspect hasn't been done before. Surely tptb would keep away from any themes that remotely resemble real life court cases. For that reason, I don't think it will be that shocking at all. PS: I was thinking that Sean might be a whistle blower when he comes across a situation.
Sean's father is dying and he is forced to confront the unresolved issues with his parents over his obvious gayness. We discover he was rejected by his family because he was so effeminate (dad was a military man) and needs the help of Roy and Eileen to reconcile with dad before he dies.
Not happy about this franky dreadful cushion hugger taking centre stage, another one that is way way past his sell by.
I have always liked Sean and look forward to him getting a good storyline. I'll look forward to any storyline that does not involve the Windasses!
Humpty Dumpty,With regards to your comment abour Sean being a whistleblower, perhaps he finds out Todd's plans to bleed Marcus dry and warns Marcus? Finally the producers\writers realise that the Barlows,Platts,Websters and Windasses aren't the only characters on the Street.
I don't mind Sean, not a huge fan, but I'm looking forward to a storyline that involves someone- anyone other than the merry-go-round of the same old same old faces of late.
Given a roomful of Seans or Windass/Armstrongs or Michelles or Tracys, I'd take the Seans any day. Sean is basically cheerful and hard working and a good friend when needed. Yeah, he's an OTT bubble brain who sometimes minces about and is always unlucky in love, but that's better than moping or plotting or arguing or lying or hitting people over the head. Like Lloyd, he was wronged out of fatherhood. He deserves a break.
I don't mind Sean in a 'Greek Chorus' capacity, making observations on other people's carryings-on, but AC really does lack the emotional range as an actor to carry off anything more powerful (anyone remember the cringingly bad scene where he stormed into Marcus' hospital and appeared to channel Bet Lynch? Terrible!)
I think it's most likely that he'll become a single gay parent to Dylan (shame if a decent character like Violet has to be killed off), as we haven't really seen this on Corrie before, although HIV infection rates are through the roof at the moment so an AIDS storyline could convey valuable information to the younger generation - however since heterosexual infection rates are higher, it would be more hard-hitting (and much less of a stereotype) to use a straight character if they wanted to go down this route.
