Noticed Mandy suddenly behind the bar at the Rovers the other night! What a surprise and no explanation...

"Play the white man" - what the hell does that even mean?! I wouldn't have taken it to be racist, it's just plain stupid.

On what planet would two gorgeous women be fighting for Chesney?! I believe there is some serious wishful thinking going on, on the part of a very delusional writer!

'Tim takes a shine to Sally...'

The man with no coin in his pocket? More like takes a shine to Sally's house.

Yes, that's probably more like it. I just hope they don't go down the "predictable" route and eventually put Tim with Anna.

Oh for goodness sakes Sally is a middle aged mother of two grown up girls - Tim must be 10 years younger, why does there have to be yet another unbelievale affair? And what would she see in this freeloader? Very lame.

How many more families are going to be attached to the Windarms? We already have Tina and Tommy, and Anna would be forever advising Sally how to be a 'step-mother'. Why does every new story with any character under 50 have to involve romance? Sally could consider setting up a business; she's done it before.

Paul, who has gone into fires, saved a little boy a couple of weeks ago, actually puts up with Eileen, looked after his ailing wife (pre Eileen) throws out an off-handed comment and is damned for it?

"Play the white man" is a term from colonial times and the reason it means "play fair" is because it was from when people believed the white man was honest and a black man was considered devious, sneaky and underhand.

How can people NOT understand why that can be interpreted as racist?

I do not believe Paul is a racist at all - he just used a phrase that no doubt he has heard growing up etc... That may make it understandable but not right.

I bet a lot of people that may use this phrase will have no idea where it comes from but hopefully now they may think twice!

Is it alright to say anything you like as long as it's "off handed" then?

Good heavens, this hysterical banter is exactly why there will never be harmony between countries, races or genders.

Paul probably doesn't even know what the origin of that statement is (as most people under the age of what, 50, wouldn't know). Should Lloyd have made a point of telling Paul the origins and that it's not acceptable to say such things in today's society? Yes. Should Lloyd have gone of the deep end, labelling Paul a racist and causing a fuss with everyone on the Street? I think not.

I am a white person who by virtue of the way I look have been called every racists name in the book, refused service, bullied, and the like. I could have a chip on my shoulder but what purpose would that serve? You can't force other people to think a certain way. You can only share information and lead by example. Lloyd overreacting does nothing to help his own cause.

Perhaps if people spent more time talking and less time taking everything personally, the world would be a more peaceful place. And at the end of the day, whether it is right or not, life is not fair. It doesn't matter who you are or where you live, people are all the "victims" of some type of bigotry.

From the recap it appears the issue is Paul is not willing to apologize. Lloyd gives him a chance and Paul refuses. That is more than a case of opps I did not know. As for whites who complain about being called racists, they remind me of men of question the need for a Women's Day. They do not see the entitlement they are given in broad strokes. The better treatment, job access, promotion opportunities, dating advantages, all unearned but a result of the way they look. All these privileges are on the back of someone else. I guarantee that t-shirt you are wearing was cheap because an Asian girl in a sweatshop was paid next to nothing to sew it for you.

Off-handed comment??Ok then..nobody on the show is allowed to call any female and old witch because Wiccan's everywhere will take offense...(Peter)who also insulted mentally challenged people by circling his index finger around his head after Gail went after him, or call some female a battle axe or talk about female hormones raging out of control. Brian is constantly held up to riducule about his weight but that's ok???? Two faced or what!

It's bizarre that we don't see much about racism on any of the soaps, so this is overdue. Unfortunately, I don't know how many "it's not racism, this is political correctness gone mad" comments I can stand to read.

By the way, I'd never heard the phrase until today but the second I heard it, it was obvious it didn't mean anything good. You don't have ot understand the origins of a phrase like that to know there's something "off" about it.
