It's the Coronation Street wedding of the year. Or is it? Well, we know there's a wedding but in true soap style, whether Peter and Carla will say "I'll do" or not remains to be seen. If she says "yes", Carla will become the fifth wife for Peter Barlow. And Peter will become Carla's third husbad - after Paul Connor, who died in a car crash and Tony Gordon, who died in a factory fire.
But what about Peter's four previous wives? Yes, four. Let's take a look.
Wife number 1: Peter married Jessica in 1990. It was a marriage we didn't see on screen. When Peter returned to Weatherfield in 2000 he divorced Jessica due to her being unfaithful.
Wives number 2 and 3: Peter comitted bigamy in 2003 when he maried both florist Lucy Richards and barmaid Shelley Unwin at almost the same time. Lucy is the mother of little Simon Barlow and she died.
Married Lucy the florist, March 24, 2003 |
Married Shelley Unwin the barmaid, 20 July 2003, commited bigamy as he was still wed to Lucy. |
Married Leanne on Dec 9 2010 in his hospital bed after the tram crash. In 2011 they have a church ceremony at which Nick exposes Leanne's affair. |

I hope he marries Carla. I feel they have such incredible passion and chemistry and been through a lot together, the love square was boring, time for them to be happy now.
The picture of him with Leanne he looks like he is going to the gallows!
His relationship with Carla is by far the most interesting.
I think it would be great to watch them get married but only if it's a happy Corrie wedding (for once) and not one that ends with Peter and Carla breaking up.
Carla was also married to Tony Gordon, remember? She was 'Mrs Gordon' to the factory girls for a while but soon reverted to Connor...
Peter obviously had a lot of money and time on his hands. So, if Peter and Carla do get married, that means 3 weddings; Eileen and Paul and St.Ella and Karl.
Oh the joy!
One thing all the ladies obviously have in common is their love of ashtray breath . . .
Great, Carla wears white for her wedding. Very appropriate given that 1) she is a virgin. 2) has an unblemished record when it comes to fidelity. 3) Has never been nicknamed Morticia by the factory girls.
The photo of Peter and Lucy is the only one in which Peter looks happy!
Nobody ever mentions Peters first wife Jessica who he split with just before he came to the street in 2000?- Micky
Of course, it won't work out. Where would be the fun in that? It's got nothing to do with whether the characters deserve a bit of happiness as you might say in real life. The writers see them as a high drama couple (they're not Beth and Kirk) and that means splitting them up.
In the last photo - the one of Peter and Leanne - the caption is wrong. Nick didn't expose Leanne's affair - Peter did, to all and sundry.
