Coronation Street Episode Review; Friday 31 August 2018

First up it seems that Daniel and Sinead are stuck with the shop (so it is lucky that Daniel failed to get on the MA course), not sure how they can afford it but there you go.  Cathy runs into them and talks Sinead into altering and repairing a coat for tomorrow (no forward planning on the Street).  Daniel tells Sinead to do it at work and inevitably she gets caught by Carla (who can spot non-underwear a mile off) and docks Sinead a morning's wages for which Sinead suddenly has a turn and demands that Carla take her to Daniel in the Bistro as he is not answering his phone.  Once there she recovers.  Later when Carla is having a recuperative drink after all the drama elsewhere (see below) Daniel sweet talks her into letting Sinead do some more jobs (but in her own time); he also believes they could make use of the factory seconds without telling Carla because she is putty in his hands.

Do I have to do Kate and Rana?  Lots of crying, eye make up everywhere, Daniel persuades Kate to see sense, but not much of interest although apparently Saira (Rana's mum) thinks she can spend the next 6 weeks on a cruise converting Rana back to herself and Kate believes nothing will happen so she and Rana part friends.  Am I unique in not particularly liking Kate or this almost random pairing?

There is a strange interlude when Kirk is passing the flower shop on his way to a County charity match and Tracy wonders if he is secretly a furry and goes to furry conventions.  For those to whom this means nothing Wikipedia has the explanation.

Jude and Angie are not getting on (you had forgotten they still lived on the street right?).  She wants a separation and a divorce, he doesn't.  He keeps trying to put things right and they both keep avoiding each other.  He just wants her to do and say nothing until after Monday when (as we all know) Mary is planning the vow renewal.  Sometimes and this is one of them - I think Tracy might be right - she is certain it will not work and consequently gets suspended from Mary's "Circle of Trust"!  When avoiding Jude, Angie goes into work and catches Imran and Leanne a kissing and a cuddling.  They spring apart and Imran goes off to court to defend a drunk driver.  Angie agrees to keep the secret of the "thing" which Leanne and Imran may be having.  (Secret on t'Street - not for long!).

Fiz and Tyrone are getting Kev's house ready to welcome Jack from rehab.  Gina suggests a welcome home party and Tim suggests getting a Weatherfield County player along and luckily Buzzer the Bee (aka Kirk) just happens to have the wondrous Tommy Orpington's number.  Kirk calls Tommy O who is fully booked for Monday but will cancel everything to be at the party.

Simon and his troubles continue and is the central story this evening.  After earlier events Peter is determined to keep Simon safe (pointing out that he is the most capable of himself, Ken and Leanne) and takes him to work at the factory and as Kirk is off for the day at a charity match (County lose 6-0) so Simon takes charge of packing and mending printers and making tea.  Apparently they are running short of material for a current order so Peter shoots off to a supplier leaving Simon with Carla who promises not to leave the factory.  But as we know she has to take Sinead to the Bistro with a mystery illness and locks Simon into the factory as the only person there (stupid really he should have helped Sinead across the way with Carla).  Tyler and his mate phone Simon saying they know he is on his own and start banging on the front and back doors.  Simon phones Carla in distress and Peter is about to unload the van.  Tyler is now back in a car and aims a gun at Peter and fires (as we see below).  It makes a funny pffft noise and Peter falls to the ground, the car roars away down the Street.

Peter picks himself up to show the paint on his white shirt - no real harm done.  Inside the factory Simon is entirely safe, with a text message from someone unknown saying that next time it will be a real bullet.  Simon feels that he can do without further upsets and announces to everyone that he will not testify against Tyler in court (he said tomorrow but for accuracy I will make that Monday).  Once apprised of events Leanne reckons it is all Carla's fault and to make sure we know it she has two rants at Carla - one at Ken's (where Peter changes his shirt so we can see the bruise) and another one at the factory.  By the way did you know Simon rates Carla highly - he mentions at one point that she is a lot better than Auntie Toyah - anyway he gives Carla the seal of approval to get back with Peter - not that she is planning to do that, but when she goes for that restorative glass of red wine at the Bistro she does admit to Michelle that no, yes, no, yes, well maybe she might have feelings for Peter  - but really she just wants the partnership at the factory to work.

Over dinner Simon has had time to think about events with more clarity and tells Ken and Peter that he will after all go to court and testify as he can see that Tyler on the loose is dangerous.

Loved the scene when Daniel was talking to Carla in the bistro. What a charmer he is, great performance from Rob Mallard.

I have never liked either of them, Wait and Whina. Immature, screechy please quiet one of them down with the reported coma coming up soon.
