Joanna Lumley: "I begged Corrie to make my role permanent"
Joanna Lumley once played the role of Ken Barlow's girlfriend Elaine Perkins on Coronation Street. And she's made no secret of the fact that she remembers her time on the show very warmly indeed.
And now, this week, Joanna tells Steve Wright on his BBC Radio Show that she became rather fond of the Weatherfield cobbles: "I begged Coronation Street to make me permanent!"
Joanna Lumley has never made secret of the fact that she loved her stint working on Coronation Street as Ken Barlow's girlfriend Elaine Perkins. Last year, interviewed on BBC's The One Show, she said once more that she felt her time on Corrie was much too short.
We can only agree.
I say bring her back, even just briefly, for a fling with King Ken.
When Stephanie Beacham was cast in the role of Ken's girlfriend Martha Fraser (the actress lady who lived on the barge), Joanna Lumley hinted at the time that she nearly returned to Coronation Street to play that role, but was too busy at the time.
You can listen to her interview here.

I would love to see Joanna on the cobbles, she's a classy woman and can do comedy very well... as we all know! The street needs a REAL actress at the moment, they could invent some really good storylines for this lovely lady. Fingers crossed !
I wasn't watching at the time. Was Elaine Perkins meant to be a Northerner? I really can't imagine Joanna Lumley without her usual posh accent and breathy tones.
I'd love her to come back
