If I had a job working on the new Coronation Street set, I'd love it, I would, even if all I had to do was clean the windows or sweep the muck. What I wouldn't do is breach protocol and take pictures to post online in soap forums and twitter.
Sadly, someone has done just that and some of the magic's been leaked.
This picture has been doing the rounds online for a few days and but now it's in the Mirror so if you want to take a look at it, it's here.
The story that Mr Curry Sauce has wrapped around the picture is that it looks too new. Well, er, that's because it is.

A "fifty year old tree"? So it pre-dates the maisonettes?
If only this were being built by expert set designers with years of experience at making the new look aged. IF ONLY, EH?
Looks very fake and has lost the backstreet charm of the old set. The people in charge these days dont seem to have a clue about anything much.
Not only is it new, it's not finished either.
The Rovers looks HUGE. These back street pubs were never meant to be that big. Guess it'll have a beer garden and a children's play area next. The whole street just looks wrong, I'm afraid, a bit too repro.
What a bunch of moaning minnies! Jeez. Where is your faith?
Agree with the last Anonymous. Why don't you all wait and see what it looks like on screen before you start slagging it. Jeez.
Its not finished yet. Plus the tree might not have been planted on the new set yet. And the extra window in the Rovers could be explained as having been hidden under that big sign all these years (the one to the right of the upstairs window on the current set).
Indeed. And it's going to look a lot different on our TV screen than it does in that photo too.
They could at least wait until it's finished before criticising. And the tree has been there since 1990, not 50 years.
Anonymous 10.27 - I originally thought that the extra window had perhaps been hidden behind the Rovers Return wall sign too. In the current Rovers the sign is directly above the entrance door. In the new Rovers, there is still a space above the door to get the sign in as well as having two windows so the extra window really is extra.
And whilst we're at it ;) there's an extra course of bricks above the windows in the new set too that aren't there in the existing one.
I think it's going to look good. It will look more realistic full size than the old set which was about two thirds human size. And the old Rovers was way, way too small on the outside for what was supposed to be inside. The Street itself now appears wider which again will seem more real. Who knows, there may be a storyline where a car hits the tree and it has to be pulled out. They could then plant a sapling to replace it and start again:)
The Rovers looks so big they could fit the Select in there again!
The story is so obviously a load of silly season nonsense, I'm surprised anyone has taken it seriously. A huge amount of work has - and is - going into getting this right and we are still many months away from actually seeing the finished results on screen.
Well said, Ian - agreed here. I love the picture though as it does show a bit of magic going on behind closed doors but I do think it'll look very different again on screen when we come to see it and it's all finished properly.
Does anyone else remember that Red Dwarf special that ran a couple of years ago where Lister and Lloyd were both in the Rovers? There were shots of the current street in that show. I was struck at the time by how different the outdoor set looked. Different camera angles and lighting made it look like a different place. I'm sure the crew that film our Corrie can make it look any way they want, and the crew of set decorators can age anything they choose. Fear not, fellow fans!
Anonymous 13.49 - I'm sure you're right! After all, I remember the HUGE outrage on these blog pages when the Corrie set was moved from its original indoor location to its new outdoor location in 1968. But then we came to love the new set just as much as the old one :). All the new set needs is a couple of tons of spray-on soot, a herd of pigeons and a deluge of acid rain and we'll never notice the difference! (and I'm sure these details are in the Master Plan).
PS This is written tongue in cheek, in case anyone hasn't noticed. But the Rovers, oh, the Rovers.....
Dolly Tubb, I do believe you're right. That was back in the days when the blog was still in black and white; not many of us can remember that far back. I was only a teenager myself.
In case anyone wants a comparison, that show was "Red Dwarf, Back To Earth, episode three". It's on Youtube. See for yourself.
Yes, what on earth happened to the Rovers. The old downstairs windows in the pub stick out, almost like bay windows but this new facade... It's flatter than a pancake!
People nagging and moaning as usual. People complained about how the current set looked too small and outdated and now they are putting hard work into making a fresh new one, everyone complains.
Things always appear differently on-screen. And hell maybe the Rovers won't be a Tardis anymore, or the toilets going into Ken and Deirdre's kitchen.
But no matter what happens everyone will nitpick every little detail.
Also, whereas the upstairs windows on the street used to be smaller than the much larger downstairs bay windows, we now have the upstairs windows taking centre stage and the lower windows are barely there.I wish the builders would have looked at a picture or two before putting hammer to nail and building this monstrosity. It is going to take a lot more than adding aging paint to fix this structural error. :P

People really do take these things seriously don't they? By crikey Minnie Caldwell, it's only a set! have faith in the designers! Remember, the current set looked a bit odd to begin with back in 1982. We are an adaptable bunch and welcome the changes with happy smiles, or my name isn't Tracey Barlow. Which it isn't.
They'll get the weathering done right in Weatherfield. Don't worry. :) It's easy to nit pic off a leaked pic, however what they've done so far looks pretty fantastic as far as I'm concerned. It's still a work in progress. They haven't got all the cobbles laid, lamp posts up, or even the curtains in the windows. It's a bit early to get critical of their work. :)
Don't forget that the demands of filming have changed with HD. Every little scratch, every scrape and tear is now clearly visible. Just as sets, make up and wardrobe have to be obvious for the stage while those of cinema more subtle, HD now compels the set design to be more understated.
It'll weather! I remember saying in 1982, when the last new set appeared: "Flippin' heck! That's not right! There's a passage between the Rovers and No 1, and the houses have chimneys!"
