I don't know about you, but I loved the very short cameo appearance of Eric's wife, Doris Babbage, on Coronation Street last week. She must have only been on screen for a few minutes but her presence lit up the cobbles like nothing's done for a very long time, for this fan.
She's got the makings of a great Corrie woman. With a great name, some great lines "Ooh sit down before you break a hip!" and that look about her suggesting she's not all she's claiming to be.
And I'm sure there was a glint in her eye, that summat was going on between her and the solicitor. She might have swanned off to Antigua on the inheritance she'll receive from Eric's fortune in vinyl floorings, but this fan would love to see her make a more substantial return to our favourite soap.
Our blogger Graeme even named Doris as his Corrie hero of the week.
What do you think? Yay or Nay - should Doris Babbage return to Coronation Street?

Doris stole the scenes she was in, but I wonder how she could return. The story with Eric is finished and she's far too posh to actually move to the Street (even if she is really 'fur coat and no knickers'. I could see though as a leading light on the local businesswomen's guild and she'd be crossing swords all the time with Audrey and Rita.
Nay...don't know her and I don't think we need new characters. We have enough storylines to keep track of.
She has great comic timing and it is combined with an edge that says she has laughed off some difficult times. Perhaps she can buy the Rovers off of Stella after the fire with her inheritance money. And yes, the name will provide some great comic lines when she spars with Sylvia or any of the factory girls.
Big Yay from me. Highlight of my Corrie week!
No story over with so doesn't warrant her being on the street
Definitely yay! She could return as Lewis's new girlfriend! Contrived yes but it's the sort of story I can get behind!
The actress gave a textbook example of how to play a small scene perfectly, enhancing the material and making it memorable. If Mr Blackburn is paying attention, he'll do what other producers have done in the past -wait awhile and bring her back in another role, with a larger story, so as not to waste such obvious talent.
Yay from Frosty. I am sure that the writers who are masters of contrivance could find a way to write her in. To my mind she could replace Gloria and perhaps should have been cast as her instead of Sue Johnson who hasnt made much of an impression so far. Would make a great landlady and wouldnt put up with any nonsense unlike wet St Ella of the Backroom
A Big yay from me! I thought the character had a real charm and wit about her which made you immediately form an opinion whether good or bad.
The actress who played her had a real charm which i'd love to see more of :)
