Roy's Bubblebeard
You've heard of Blackbeard and Bluebeard, the fierce pirates. Last night we were introduced to Royston Bubblebeard! Sylvia, under the influence of herbal brownies was fascinated by the bubbles from the dish soap and decorated Roy's face, with Dennis thoroughly enjoying the spectacle.
I'm loving this! Yes, it's cheesy and silly but isn't that gentle humour what we've been asking for? So what if something similar was done before? I don't care and it gives the older set something to do and something fun! I can't imagine how David Neilson managed to keep a straight, indeed, pinched face!

I think Royston is great but why does he keep giving coffes etc away "on the house". He is supposed to be running a business. He did it to Marcus for no particular reason last week and to Chesney yesterday again just because he looked more miserable than normal if that is possible. These are customers not best friends. Getting a bit daft as no business would do this.
I noticed that last night as well. Sylvia's pot of tea for her friends was free as well. I think he did it a couple of times! I suppose in the grand scheme of things and considering how many coffees and teas he probably serves in a day, it probably doesn't add up to much.
Presumably, Roy's business earns enough that he can afford to be magnanimous to his regular customers and foster some goodwill and loyalty.
Yeah, I'd agree with that. A few free cups of coffee isn't going to break the bank but if he was giving away 3 course meals to all and sundry, that'd be different. Roy is the sort of person who would give free cups of tea and coffee away to those he felt needed it, even if they just needed cheering up.
I thought it was a lovely gestures. It generates goodwill among customers and keeps them coming back - not in the hopes of more freebies but as paying customers. Kind gestures when someone is feeling particularly low are usually remembered and the next time you want something to eat, there's a very good chance that this is where you will return.
I loved the scene with the bubbles.
'Of course we make money, it's 98% water.'
Yeah, I used to work at Starbucks.
Great scenes with Sylvia, Roy and Dennis - miss Auntie Joan on Doc Martin but she is just as great being Sylvia. Hope she's around for a long time.
And i noticed that today on FB, ITV put up almost the exact same screen capture, though better quality than my screen cap. I saw it a couple of hours after mine went up on here!
Yes, I noticed ITV Corrie did that too ;-)
Great minds think alike? ;)
