Oh dear - tensions in the households of Chesney, Fiz and Katy and also in the Sally, Sophie and guest Gail household.
It's perfectly understandable that Katy is tired and fed up and the writers are pretty transparent in taking up the issue, firmly advising against teenage pregnancy. To demonstrate the difficulty of running a home, looking after a baby and trying to earn a living, we see Katy snipe at Chesney as she asks him if he has had a good lie-in. When Ryan arrives to ask Katy if she'll do his shift for him so he can take Steph out, she refuses at first and then says, 'Yeah, right, whatever, I'll do it,' which is perhaps not the most gracious way to grant a favour but we understand, even if Fiz and Chesney don't. In the kebab shop, Steph is informed by Katy that Tracy, who viewers will remember had a scene with Ryan, is Ryan's mum's boyfriend's friend's ex-wife - and did some time for murder.
Later Katy confesses to Ryan that she was jealous of Steph, which is the reason she badmouthed him. So out they go on a night out after Ryan runs the lyrics of The Specials by Katy: 'Much too much, much too young, you're married with a kid when you should be having fun.' OK Ryan.
Sally's household tensions concern Gail, naturally. Sophie is timing Gail's stays in the bathroom and becoming very frustrated. Rather wittily, Sally asks Sophie why she doesn't stay in bed like normal teenagers. Pretending that they need some private time, mother and daughter claim they are going to the bistro, but are found out, though not before Sally asks Jenna when she first knew she was a lesbian and as a result is teased that if she liked and indeed noticed Chris Evert-Lloyd's legs then maybe too Sally is gay.
Happily, later, Gail does inform Sally that she's viewing some flats next week, and admits that she knows she's in the way. Let's hope the friendship lasts until Gail gets the keys for her new flat. We all need to think twice about how quickly a friendship can be ruined, no matter if it is of long standing.
Did anyone else notice, in the first episode that Peter Barlow was hanging around, observing and commenting on people and events? He mentions how Dev and Sunita are holding it together, behaving in a civil fashion in front of the children. He delivers a good line - for us, not so good for him. He asks how it is that when Leanne says hello, what he actually hears is, 'I hate you, you adulterer.' Sunita feels the magnitude of her mistake saying she left Dev for a complete loser. Then Joni Mitchell arrived with her Big Yellow Taxi song, or rather Sunita said that 'you don't know what you've got till it's gone.' So true...
Gloria! Please! Those lego and thumb-sucking jokes about Jason deserve more than a gentle reproach. Stella is extremely tolerant. How long is Gloria sticking around and what story lines are in store for her? It's not really working.
Poor Chesney. How will things work out? The ring he gazes on as the last shot, just before switching everything off, is what he hopes Katy will be delighted with. We'll know, soon enough.

One thing that upset me about this episode, Gloria soaring guinea pigs have red eyes. Only white ones do, the rest have black ones!
Erm , who was serving iSally and Sophie n the kebab shop tonight ? Cos Katie and Ryan weren't there !
Gail comes downstairs after taking too long of a shower with totally dried hair loosely tied up with a towel..didn't even cover half her head. C'mon wardrobe..don't be so lazy!!
I'm sure there are more than just Katie and Ryan employed at the Kebab shop.
Jason and his lego's...LOL
LOVED the kebab shop scene, staff issue not withstanding. Heck, I liked Sophie everywhere today. St Ella is an idiot, berating Jason, esp in front of Karl. Gloria should be bitten by a guinea pig.
Ryan is a four-letter word beginning with C. Why would you blatantly go after someone you know is in a relationship unless you are a four-letter word beginning with C?
And Katy - you stupid stupid girl. As if!
So Stella wouldnt believe Jason that Karl stole and torched his van but was quick to believe that Jason broke Karl's wing mirror - and what's with all the drinks "on the house"? Just days ago she implored him to stay away from her and her pub? Memory span of a goldfish and about the same expression range. And Gloria - why IS she there exactly?
Dev mentioned a Gaynor didn't he in one episode so maybe her?
I did notice that Peter was around a lot, with the Alahans and then with Jason/Karl. Does he have a part to play?
Frosty, my sentiments exactly! St Ella has become even more irritating. I was previously able to take or leave her, but now I actively dislike her. As a Yank, her accent or lack thereof didn't bother me because I can't tell the difference between how she and the other actors speak. But her character is annoying, and this whole Jason/Karl situation is ridiculous. She asks Jason to move in but she champions Karl and is back to encouraging him to hang around the pub with free drinks. This is the same woman who just a few days ago threw out his flowers and told him to stay away. What are the writers thinking? ARE they thinking? And what purpose is Gloria serving, other than to needle and insult everyone who crosses her path? She's another Tracy Barlow. She adds nothing to the show. We were so lacking another mean and pointless character.
Am in Canada where this Katy/Ryan thing is just about to happen. Cheating on a relationship is not acceptable. Saying that, being IN a relationship with Chesney can't be much fun. He is a whiner who is very negative and is wound up so tight all the time. You don't ever see him where he isn't complaining about something. He needs to take it down and relax a bit or the (as you guys say) very fit Ryan is going to slide in there.
Given the mother that Chesney had, he was forced to be pretty mature and serious from a young age. Let's face it, SOMEbody had to be the adult - and it was Chesney. He couldn't even rely on his older sister's maturity & common sense during the whole Stape fiasco nor in the Ty/Ruby "getaway".
So he's serious (perhaps overly so) and focused. He has a family (Katy nagged him that she wanted a baby). If life isn't all fun & games for him, maybe there are reasons. He's dedicated and devoted to his family.
Katy's attracted to a drug abuser who caused Sophie's injuries; a jerk who dated Tracy; and on and on. YOU wanted that baby, sweetheart. Deal with it. I have no sympathy for her if she has now realized she might be missing out.
Chesney would never betray you. Ryan would at the drop of a hat.

I did roar out loud at the 'same again without the top' gag and Gloria's response was finely delivered. I agree we need a less abrasion in the character, but I do see flashes of what she could be if only the writers would give Sue Johnson the sort of stuff she deserves.
Chesney is a sensible, reliable man. However, the whole nonsense with Katy was a train wreck waiting to happen. Is this meant to be a service announcement against teenaged pregnancy? Seems like it. There's no question this situation is of her own making but no suprise that someone her age wants to break out of a smothering situation like that.
Chesney is a decent man with good intentions. However, he's grown into a hideous, angry, whining ne'er do well who runs a stall at a market selling pointless crap. I'd respect him 100 X more if he sold produce or anything that indicated he had some sort of skill or interest. He's as dull as dishwater and this couple's desperation for cash will bring them to an end!
God I can't stand Chesney, constantly moaning, negative and always demanding to know what's going on even if its nothing to do with him. Silly children the pair of them, well suck it up now lovies.....you reap what you sow!
