One of the Coronation Street big stories over Christmas and New Year will be Fiz falling into a coma after being overcome by deadly carbon monoxide fumes from a faulty gas boiler. Corrie has taken professional advice from leading experts in gas safety, the Gas Safe Register.
The Sunday People report today that baby Hope won't be in the room when Fiz is poisoned by the gas, and the People says (and I quote) "Corrie fans will be left on tenter-hooks to discover whether much-loved Fiz will pull through." Ahem. Corrie fans will know they wouldn't kill off one of the much-loved characters, so of course she'll pull through. Ooh, I hate it when the tabloids patronise us soap fans.
A show source said: "It is one of our biggest and most important
storylines in a very long time and we need to make sure that it is
portrayed properly as we know that scenes like this, if done properly,
can save lives. That's why we decided to work with the Gas Safe Register. Carbon monoxide is the silent killer and the show hopes to bring the issue to everyone."
Of course, as us Corrie fans with long memories know, it's not the first time Corrie have done this carbon monoxide storyline. In 1998 Rita was taken to hospital once after breathing in fumes from her faulty fireplace in the flat that Steve McDonald installed for her. Alec Gilroy turned up in the nick of time to save Rita and when she recovered he realised how much he loved her and proposed to her. I wonder if the same thing will happen for Tyrone and Fiz?

Shame they are not killing Fiz off, she is a very annoying character indeed. Why do Corrie residents always want to do things on the cheap - from buying dodgy turkeys and smoke alarms to getting unqualified neighbours to fix things. Spend a little less in the pub and on your designer gear and nails and you could afford things that are kosher.
"...Why do Corrie residents always want to do things on the cheap - from buying dodgy turkeys and smoke alarms to getting unqualified neighbours to fix things..."
- Good point, dare I say because that's what writers from middle class families believe working class people do?
Where as 'Shameless' by an ex-Corrie scripwriter (and also an award winning writer) who actually had such an upbringing, shows that kind of thing belongs to those living on deprived 'sink' estates.
No one on Corrie appears to be wandering round as long-term unemployed/unemployable, living solely on state benefits.
Yet catch the odd appropriate documentary and you'll find reports and interviews with people the wrong age etc., or for whatever reason, who haven't been able to find paid emploment for years - in their millions.
So, it's possible that those with next to no disposable income are up for dodgy cheap turkeys, dodgy gas boiler repairs etc.,
- but Corrie residents where the houses are all more or less, privately owned?
I don't know why you dislike Fiz - i think she is a great character and all the better now that John Stape nonsense is over with.
Perhaps she is doing in on the cheap because that's all she can afford?
She spent all her money on a solicitor's advice for Ty!
If she cares for Tyrone as much as she claims to why would she go and jeopardize his chance to get parental responsibility for Ruby by acting like a bitch in heat every time she looks at him.
You know that when Kirsty finds out Fiz and quite possibly Tyrone will be dead meat.
"Why do Corrie residents always want to do things on the cheap" - Aaaaaah, probably because they don't have a lot of spare cash to start with. - or maybe some people are naturally tight and would rather get a supposed bargain at every opportunity. - or maybe some think they're supporting local enterprise. Oh and if everything annoying was killed off, there'd probably be a few less comments on here!
I think it is human nature to do things on the cheap. Look at Black Tuesday in the US. People camp out for a week to get that bargain. There have even been shootings in the stampede for the deal. Boxing Day sales and Yard Sales work because if people think they are getting a bargain they will get it, whether they need it or not.
It's actually Black Friday in the USA (it coincides with Thanksgiving). I can only hope that people in other countries, including England, are not that materialistic and idiotic. However, injecting more cash into the economy never hurts.
