December 21: World doesn't end, but gets Corrie in the news

As your Coronation Street Blog editor, I don't half get sent some daft press releases. Could this be the daftest one this year?

Today, Friday 21st December 2012 supposedly marks the end of the world (if you believe in all that gumph!). Well, that's all well and good but what's it got to do with Corrie?

A poll by YouView (who?) said that more than one in 10 Brits would choose to spend their final minutes on the sofa watching Coronation Street.

In joint second place were Dr Who and Downton Abbey. US-hit Homeland was the fourth most popular TV show to watch should the end be nigh with one in seven of those questioned said EastEnders.

So there you have it. But just to be clear, the world isn't going to end, but if it did we'd all sit down and watch Coronation Street. And then run for the hills?

I've been doing my fair share of cracking End of the World Day jokes, but the one that tickled me most was someone posting that there was an error in calculations and that the World does not end on December 21st, but has been recalibrated to end on December25th
- as he has it on the highest authority that his mother-in-law is turning up for Christmas dinner that day!

- Oooooh-er!
